Canadian Tire Senior Financial Analyst in Toronto, Ontario

What you’ll do

Reporting to the Manager of Business Accounting, this position provides a unique insight into new projects, contracts, and financial results. The Senior Financial Analyst, Transportation and Supply Chain will play a key role within the accounting group and will require experience establishing relationships with key clients to ensure business initiatives are identified and accounted for appropriately. The incumbent will analyze the output of how others have recorded data and investigate anomalies and discrepancies to ensure accurate reporting and adherence to accounting standards and policies. Your technical expertise and analytical skills are critical for success, as is your ability to communicate, collaborate and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Serve as the initial point of contact for new transportation and supply chain business initiatives.

  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate accounting policy decisions are made.

  • Ensure models and reporting processes are updated, working alongside the other accounting groups to ensure proper execution.

  • Monitor and update key financial models across all entities.

  • Develop expertise in the Dealer contract as required, seek direction where necessary and provide guidance to other accounting teams as appropriate.

  • Make capital vs OPEX decisions.

  • Be responsible for the timely completion and accuracy of all monthly and quarterly deliverables.

  • Report functional results, analysis of significant variances year over year or compared to budget/forecast and progress of key projects.

  • Research, analyze, and lead discussions on key business and accounting issues for business initiatives as they evolve.

  • Identify and execute improvements and efficiencies to complex models and processes and maintain appropriate documentation.

  • Ensure all key controls are being monitored and executed.

  • Effectively manage communications and relationships with business partners, accounting, FP&A, tax, and internal/external auditors.

  • Participate or lead a variety of ad hoc projects as assigned by the Manager.

What you bring

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a medium/large company accounting department or accounting firm.

  • University Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting.

  • CPA designation.

  • Ability to provide accounting guidance on leases under IFRS 16 and on capitalization of assets to determine appropriate treatment of financial transactions in accordance with IFRS.

  • IFRS expertise and experience with researching and developing accounting position documents.

  • Strong problem solving, analytical and strategic thinking skills; able to see the “big picture” in a complex business environment.

  • Natural curiosity to understand the reason behind transactions.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships.

  • Ability to thrive in an environment responsive to changing business requirements.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Advanced PC skills including Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Familiarity with internal and external audit processes.

  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft accounting system and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) is an asset.

  • Broad knowledge of the chart of accounts and internal controls is an asset.

  • Experience in delivering timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis.
