This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.

Why is this role important?

The Data Scientist drives strong partnerships between Data & Audience Activation, product teams and other analytics team partners. You will enable data-driven decision making for various business groups by crafting scalable business solutions for customer lifecycle management initiatives, identifying and classifying the next best user recommendation, and optimize full funnel communication.

We are in the midst of implementing a new CDP platform, and will be increasing business use of our existing DMP platform. Your work will have a direct impact on how millions of Canadians from various communities connect with our products, with one another, and with the diverse voices that make our country so unique.

How you will make an impact:

  • Proactively identify and champion projects that solve complex business problems across multiple domains (customer success, marketing, advertising).

  • Apply specialized skills and fundamental data science methods (e.g. regression, survival analysis, segmentation, experimentation, and machine learning when needed) to inform improvements to our business

  • Influence leadership to drive more data-informed decisions

  • Define and advance best practices within data science and product teams

  • Build, validate, and deploy machine learning solutions that will help us better engage with Canadians (maximize ROI and advertising performance).

  • Research and identify new data sources.

  • Support initiatives for data integrity and normalization.

  • Help iterate on our machine learning infrastructure to ensure it continues to be robust and scalable.

  • Continuously pursue knowledge through build, measure, learn processes in an Agile environment and stay on top of the latest technology developments.

  • Utilize advanced problem-solving skills to navigate unstructured projects that may require innovative approaches while taking into consideration resources, timing and other constraints.

  • Visualize data. You have working knowledge of one more visualization tools: Tableau, Excel, Power BI etc. and have the ability to quickly learn new tools.

Who you are:

  • You are a Data Scientist. You have used an open source data set to post something to github, bitbucket, or an open source contribution. You are continuously seeking answers to satisfy your curious nature. You want to break open data and build meaningful models or solutions with it.

  • Possess a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field or equivalent experience.

  • You have hands-on exposure to cloud computing and data engineering.

  • Hands-on experience with the principles of Design & Implementation of machine learning lifecycle

  • Have the ability to take an ambiguously defined task, and break it down into an insightful analysis

  • Have the ability to innovate custom algorithmic solutions to machine learning problems.

  • Have experience dealing with very large datasets and multiple data sources. You have hands-on experience with data wrangling using scripts.

  • Have experience in a high growth agile software development environment (Scrum or Kanban)

  • Technology Stack: Java, Jenkins, Google Cloud Platform, Python, Scala, Colab/Jupyter notebooks, NumPy, Pandas, Sckit-learn, Hadoop/MapReduce, GCP, Databricks and AWS, Adobe / Amplitude Analytics

  • Have experience with data visualization. You have working knowledge of one more visualization tools: Tableau, Excel, Power BI etc. and have the ability to quickly learn new tools.

  • Go Beyond. You are tenacious and enjoy solving a wide variety of problems – be it research, data wrangling, or data analysis – and possess the ability to think outside the box to reach solutions. You can switch contexts easily going from heads down research one day to data wrangling on another to building connectors on yet another.

  • Collaborate. You can work as part of the team, or work autonomously. You are adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to a dynamic startup environment. Previous experience working at a startup environment is an asset

  • Evolve with us. The landscape is being built under our feet as we move forward, so we need people who can channel their passion, learn quickly, and navigate the unknown at top speed.
