Your role

As a Senior Research Analyst, you will be an integral part of a dynamic team that provides on-going research for CBC's English Canada's initiatives. You will assist in the design, implementation, analysis and presentation of market, media, and audience research studies undertaken by the Custom Research team. Core responsibilities of the Senior Research Analyst will be questionnaire design, survey scripting and deployment, monitoring data collection, data analysis, report writing and presentation of results.

Key Tasks:

  • Conceptualize, conduct, manage, and socialize quantitative and qualitative research initiatives for CBC English Services.

  • Understand internal stakeholders' research needs and design research projects tailored to meet their business objectives.

  • Questionnaire design and survey scripting, sample deployment.

  • Work with external sample providers and troubleshoot data collection issues.

  • Select and work with external research suppliers to plan, implement, and socialize larger-scale research programs.

  • Use SPSS to analyze survey data and present results in easily understood tabular or graphic formats.

  • Make sense of large amounts of statistical data to build reports and dashboards that highlight actionable insights in a clear and concise manner.

  • Present findings to internal stakeholders and discuss wider implications of research for programming decisions and/or business objectives.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Academic and professional training in social science research with a post-secondary degree in communications, social science, media studies, or relevant discipline, or equivalent education and experience. Minimum B.A, but M.A preferred

  • Knowledge of the media landscape, in general, and of CBC, in particular

  • Requires in-depth knowledge and industry experience with current qualitative and quantitative market research methodologies

  • Ability to think critically about research methodology and dissect public opinion studies

  • Demonstrated survey and questionnaire design expertise, particularly in the media and audience research field, including program/content testing, creative testing, brand health tracking, as well as brand lift studies

  • Demonstrated technical expertise with a survey scripting platform (such as Sparq, Alchemer, Qualtrics, or Survey Monkey) and a statistical software program (such as SPSS, R, Stata, or SAS)

  • Demonstrated competency in creating compelling reports and presentations of market research data with a focus on insights, storytelling, and visualization

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft (Excel and Powerpoint) or Google (Sheets and Slides) applications. Experience with Google Looker is a plus

  • High level of oral and written communication skills, especially for the presentation of research findings

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure data accuracy

  • Sense of initiative and creativity in conceptualizing research problems, designing methodologies, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data

  • Requires the capacity to respond in a timely way to a wide range of requests, both urgent and long-term, and to handle multiple priorities
