Canadian Tire Security Specialist in Toronto, Ontario

Reporting directly to the Manager, Physical Security, Corporate Campuses and Events, and secondarily to the Team Lead, Physical Security, the Security Specialist maintains the CTC Security Group’s service according to standards and processes established for Home Office and the Global Security Operations Center (GSOC). They must view security as a business-enabler first, and as a control process second, this includes the oversight of day-to-day operations, administrative duties, performance management, initiative through solution development, and the application of CTC risk management practices to incidents across Canada. The Security Specialist frequently interacts at the Corporate and Business Group level, with Business Continuity Management personnel, IT, Security personnel, Governance personnel, and third-party security providers, employees and senior leaders. This position also interfaces directly with government representatives, and emergency services officials at the regional, provincial, national, and international level.

What you'll do

  • Directly oversees, coaches and mentors a team of outsourced security professionals within a 24/7 security call centre environment.

  • Drives Retail, Supply Chain and Corporate Campuses alarm management best practices

  • Effectively communicates both internally and externally, to support the departments mandates, goals and objectives.

  • Access Control and Visitor Management

  • Generate reports, including, incident reports, risk assessments, briefings, and other data management

  • Participates in the creation and process reviews of CTC policies and operating directives.

  • Monitors, as required, vendor operational performance including invoice validation and security guard performance

  • Assists the Physical Security Governance team by ensuring security guard performance and execution of duties to the established policy/procedure/process.

  • Coordinates guard service requests from Retail, Supply Chain, Events and Corporate locations.

  • Maintains integrity of the event management, incident, and case management databases.

  • Conducts regular health checks for a range of security systems.

  • Assists with programming access control devices and employee access profiles.

  • Develops threat risk assessments for travelling executives, local events impacting business, planned and unplanned escalations.

What you bring

  • University degree or college diploma in law and security administration, police foundations, security management, risk management, business administration or comparable professional education/training in a field relevant to security management.

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with an organization comparable to CTC in size and complexity, including experience in physical security operations.

  • Professional designation in security management (e.g. ASIS Certified Protection Professional [CPP], ASIS Physical Security Practitioner [PSP], CSIS Accredited Security Professional [ASP] or Certified Security Professional [CSP] would be an asset.

  • Demonstrable experience in security call centre operations, alarm management and security manpower deployment in a complex, fast paced environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, organization, and planning skills. Ability to interact with personnel at senior levels.

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to issues of ethics, diversity, equity, and harassment in the workplace.

  • High proficiency in MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project and Access.

  • Working knowledge of: Ccure/Software House, PPM 2000 Perspective, PPM Dispatch Log and Bell Voyageur an asset.

  • Experience with: CCTV Systems, Access Control Systems, Alarm Monitoring & Management, Card Readers for Physical Access, Fire Panels, Environmental Alarms, Biometric Security Systems, Duress Alarms, and additional devices and sensors related to physical security.

  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
