Purpose
Leads and oversees Toronto Region, ScotiaMcLeod within Scotia Wealth Management in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
The role is responsible for the development and achievement of defined goals for the region through the profitable delivery of superior client service and high quality wealth management solutions to high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients, as well as recruitment of the experienced Wealth advisors in the region. The incumbent is responsible for leading and coaching a regional team to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to execute and deliver on our Total Wealth strategy. The incumbent also maintains a close, collaborative working relationship with other Scotia Wealth Management and Scotiabank business leads in the region with a focus on deepening and broadening client relationships. The role has direct P&L responsibility for all branches in the Region.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
Develops and executes the region’s overall growth strategy, business plan, profit plan, and sales goals by:
Providing direction and support to direct reports for resolution of complex client issues;
Executing on an experienced advisor recruitment strategy for the region by attracting top talent from our competitors and building/maintain a recruitment pipeline, and coaching/supporting the branch management with their recruitment goals
Developing a visible community profile for Scotia Wealth Management & ScotiaMcLeod;
Maintaining close relationships with the region’s top clients
As the primary leadership contact for the region, establishing close working relationships with other areas of Scotia Wealth Management and Scotiabank partners to create business line awareness and generate internal referrals;
Developing and maintaining an external COI network for external business referrals.
Leads the sales and service management strategy by:
Leading, coaching and motivating the branch management and advisors to exceed sales growth and profitability goals;
Championing and facilitating the sharing of best practices to enhance client and relationship managers experiences (e.g. strategy & business development campaigns);
Managing the overall quality and timeliness of client service in compliance with corporate policies and procedures, the operation document(s), legislation, and court precedent;
Maintaining a high degree of working knowledge of products and strategies in order to effectively support Wealth Advisory professionals and promote the full suite of Scotia products and services;
Leads the risk mitigation strategy, ensuring effective management controls are in place for the region by:
Identifying and managing problem accounts early to minimize potential losses;
Providing direction and support for unit audits and ensuring timely responses to any audit findings and sustainment of corrective activities;
Maintaining a high degree of working knowledge of regulatory and legislative requirements in all jurisdictions within assigned region;
Ensuring strict adherence to Bank security procedures, including assigned authorities and limits;
Escalating fraudulent activities, unusual occurrences, issues/deficiencies/trends
Oversees compliance management for the region by:
Maintaining oversight of local supervisory functions and Tier 1 compliance requirements;
Partnering with Compliance to create and maintain regulatory policies and procedures including assigned authorities and limits;
Overseeing the implementation and execution of regulatory changes.
Ensures operational effectiveness for the region by:
Managing the regional profit plan (e.g. revenue planning, expenditures, etc.);
Monitoring non-interest expenses against planned budgets,
Supporting client experience issues and the formal complaints process;
Utilizing technology enablers and supporting the adoption of new tools, technologies, and processes
Ensuring daily and periodic management controls are in place and effective;
Ensuring workflows and organization plans are efficient and effective.
Managing staffing requirements and departmental workloads.
Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:
10+ years experience at a senior level within the industry
Post-graduate business degree and a CFA (or equivalent experience) would be an asset.
Requisite professional courses to be registered, at a minimum, as an Officer/Director (PDO, CSC, CPH, Branch Manager, and Options Supervisors Course (OPSC)
Expert knowledge of the wealth management advisory industry and factors that influence it to anticipate, prepare and lead on issues that affect the business
Exceptional business development and leadership skills, and demonstrated success in sales management techniques
Well-developed network of relationships with internal and external stakeholders, Centres of Influence and business alliances to identify opportunities and grow the business
Superior leadership and management skills and an ability to work closely and collaboratively with other senior leaders across Wealth Management
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a strategic plan, with a record of accomplishment of delivering results in a large organization where it is key to understand and develop internal relationships and influence decisions outside the scope of direct authority.
Strong capability in evaluating, designing, and leading the implementation of operational processes, marketing strategies and technology solutions
Highly competent and proven change agent with building a business, outstanding general management, interpersonal / team motivation and communication skills.
Proven ability to drive and manage a business line Profit & Loss statement.
Strong knowledge of the regulatory environment applicable to the investment management industry
Thorough knowledge and experience in the management of wealth advisory, securities regulations, risk management and compliance.
Strong understanding of the operational and technological platforms and systems underlying the business and how they support the delivery, distribution and client experience
