What you’ll be doing

Global Operational Risk Management (GORM) is responsible for the identification, measurement and monitoring of all operational risks throughout the bank. Within GORM the Advanced Analytics team provides data science expertise and best practices in predictive science, machine learning, leveraging massive datasets and the latest in big data technology platforms, responsible for data management, analysis, delivery and insight creation. The Risk Analyst’s primary responsibilities include working with the Advanced Analytics team and the GORM partners to analyze and visualize operational risk data to identify insights in order to mitigate risks.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed

  • Data Visualization Skills – Translating data to insights by authoring strategic dashboards intended for the broader GORM team, senior leaders and executives. Requires skills using Tableau or similar interactive data visualization business intelligence applications.

  • Database Skills – Accessing massive datasets by using advanced SQL/relational database knowledge. Experience designing databases, tables, views, complex queries and stored procedures.

  • Programing Skills – You have hands-on programming experience using Python.

  • Data Management – Supporting the ongoing day-to-day data ETL operations. Proactively participate in the analysis and resolution of problems adversely affecting the efficiency or integrity of the data

  • Data Modelling Skills – Assisting in the sourcing and building of ETL pipelines for new data sources for analytical/data visualization projects in GORM and its business partners

  • Curious and Creative – Innovative and likes to try new concepts and design an experience that makes complex insights more intuitive

  • Planning and Coordination - Effectively interact with all stakeholders, end users, business analysts, and technical resources to gather requirements, prepare design specifications, and provide technical support for applications, as instructed by senior team members.

  • Stay Current with Best Practices – Constantly looking for ways to improve user experience and insights consumption, staying up to date with industry best practices in data management tools and big data analytics

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience in: supporting the end-to-end process for creating and managing visualization pipeline (e.g., sourcing data, database organization and structuring, creating ETL pipelines, and designing dashboards).

  • You have a degree/diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, and/or a related field of study or relevant work/project experience
