Function:

CBC Kids is seeking a Producer full of creativity and passion for children’s television to join the in-house production team. Working among the dedicated professionals of CBC Kids Studios, this person will brainstorm, pitch, write, produce and direct preschool content featuring hosts Janaye & Tony and puppet pals Gary the Unicorn, Mr. Orlando, Cottonball Cat and Mosey Monster. In this position, the lucky candidate will be a key contributor to all creative, bringing a unique perspective and voice that will connect with and grow audiences.

If you are overflowing with ideas, a hilarious and strong writer, an experienced director with a good understanding of YouTube, kids content and child development, this position is for you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content development: work with team to develop creative, pitch ideas,

  • Producing: Plan, organize and coordinate the program or the components and/or segments of a program, including completing call sheets, booking guests, requesting and reviewing props, & more

  • Writing: Write segments, songs, promos, stage shows and other items as needed

  • Directing: All aspects of directing in studio, field, post production and live events (as needed)

As required, performs the following tasks:

  • Obtain footage or stills needed ie: sports footage, stills of artists etc - through Visual Library, Stock sources and other CBC depts

  • Exercise editorial responsibility as delegated by Management.

  • Liaise with other teams to inform and deliver new content

  • Shoot items for social

  • Select, re-write and/or edit copy or text written by others;

  • Assign, coordinate and supervise the work of personnel who contribute to the program or segment for which the Producer is responsible;

  • Update and maintain Monday.com and other databases

  • Organize Award Submissions

  • Source/Engage Contractors for additional production support

  • Review progress of contractors and casuals engaged for production

  • identify, develop and maintain contacts appropriate to the area of assignment;

Education Required:

  • Job requires a university degree or equivalent.

Experience Required:

  • Candidates must have a minimum of five years’ of experience in Children’s Television Production with experience in preschool specifically, proven ability as a writer/director, understanding of YouTube, and a strong understanding of the various stages of child development especially preschool, and school age audiences. Experience writing/directing for puppets is an asset.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
