Under the general direction and supervision of theCaptain Mechanical Parts & Inventory Technician, the successful candidate will be responsible for the acquisition, control and management of stocking and non-stocking vehicle parts as well as materials and equipment required for the repair and maintenance of all Fire & Emergency vehicles and equipment.

The primary functions associated with theMechanical Parts & Inventory Technician (Firefighter Mechanical)include, but are not limited to:

Major Responsibilities

  • Ordering, tracking, maintaining and distribution of vehicle parts and related materials and equipment.

  • Maintain an inventory and stock control of vehicle parts and related materials and equipment including daily cycle counts, reorder reports and obsolete stock reports.

  • Conduct annual inventory counts and reconciliations.

  • Maintain all required W.H.M.I.S information.

  • Organize and maintain stockroom.

  • Responsible for all documentation related to ordering, receiving, invoice approval, shipment and delivery of all items.

  • Ensure that testing, repairs and maintenance of shop equipment and tools is performed in house or by a certified third-party vendor.

  • Co-ordinate the purchasing of vehicle parts and related materials and equipment and inventory items throughout the corporate purchasing process; liaise with Purchasing and other departments as required.

  • Fosters positive co-operative working relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Provide input for the annual budget for materials and equipment, co-ordinate new procedures and implement an automated system.

  • Prepare and provide reports with respect to cost analysis, inventory status and trends with associated recommendations.

  • Pickup and delivery of inventory items as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

In addition to the above duties the successful candidates are required to:

  • Continually maintain a high standard of professionalism, integrity, reliability, and credibility, which are fundamental requirements for this position.

  • Function as an integral member of the City of Toronto workforce to support corporate vision and mission statements.

  • Function as an integral member of the Toronto Fire Service workforce to deliver and support Division specific vision and mission statements.

  • Function as an integral member of the Toronto Fire Service emergency response team to deliver and support Division specific goals of emergency response and preparedness.

Minimum Qualifications

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent secondary education as established by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

  • Must possess a current and valid Certificate of Qualification (Ontario) 240P Parts Technician or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.

  • 5 yearsrecentexperience in vehicle parts management and stores/inventory control.

  • 5 yearsrecentexperience using an electronic inventory control software package. Example M5.

  • Solid knowledge of administration procedures, including asset procurement, budgets, audits, records and information management filing systems

  • Must possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary, Class “G” Ontario Drivers Licence.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Decision making, organization and time management skills.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • Knowledge of WHMIS and hazardous goods.

  • Must be able to work shift work.

  • May be required to work variable hours, including after hours on-call when required

  • Must be willing and able to wear all required uniform clothing and personal protective equipment.

Must also Possess:

  • Must be physically and mentally capable of performing the required duties of Firefighter Mechanical Parts Technician.

  • Ability to work a compressed work week.

  • Familiarity with workshop safety.

  • Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions.

  • Interpersonal/interaction skills when dealing with the public, and external vendors, Fire Services and all other levels of City personnel.

  • Must be able to lift heavy parts and stand for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to work and positively within diverse and inclusive work environment.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and work independently with minimum supervision.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing demands and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated commitment to personal and professional development and in continuing education through ongoing learning.

Note:

  • Psychometric testing may be required.

  • Must provide a Criminal Record Check obtained from a police service in Ontario, to the satisfaction of Fire Services.

  • As part of the Recruitment Process selected candidates may be required to participate in an Assessment.

  • As part of the Recruitment Process selected candidates will be required to participate in an Interview.

  • Should you be hired into the Mechanical Division, and thereafter, request to transfer out of the Mechanical Division, your request may likely be denied due to operational need.

Assets:

  • Previous fire service experience would be considered an asset

  • Possession of a current and valid minimum of level C CPR Certificate would be considered an asset

  • Possession of a current and valid minimum Standard First Aid Certificate, issued by a WSIB approved First Aid Trainer would be considered an asset

Notes

  • Priority will be given to applicants covered by the Local 3888 collective agreement

  • For purposes of OMERS pension, this position is a Normal Retirement Age 60 position. If you are currently enrolled in OMERS under the Normal Retirement Age 65 program, your service established under the NRA 60 provisions will be reduced by one quarter unless you establish this credit in the fund by paying into OMERS the additional cost as established by the OMERS board
