Canadian Tire Manager, ESG Strategy & Reporting in Toronto, Ontario

What you''ll do

CT Real Estate Investment Trust (CT REIT) owns, manages, and develops income producing commercial properties across Canada. CT REIT’s portfolio consists primarily of net lease retail properties, primarily occupied by Canadian Tire stores. CT REIT’s principal objective is to create unitholder value over the long-term by generating reliable, durable and growing monthly cash distributions for our investors.

Reporting into the AVP, ESG, the Manager, ESG Strategy and Reporting will help to drive CT REIT’s developing ESG strategy, measure and monitor CT REIT’s progress, and advance CT REIT’s ESG public reporting. This position will have accountability for specific ESG initiatives under CT REIT’s ESG plan. The successful Manager will be collaborative, thorough, and solutions oriented.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting CT REIT’s ESG reporting and disclosure, including by implementing data and reporting solutions to facilitate accurate, complete, and timely reporting

  • Driving improvement in data coverage and quality

  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including CT REIT teams, representatives of Canadian Tire Corporation, consultants, industry representatives, and regulators, to help further CT REIT’s ESG strategy

  • Providing guidance to CT REIT teams responsible for ESG program implementation

  • Coordinating consultants and other service providers that contribute to CT REIT’s ESG initiatives, including defining scope of work and project requirements, and managing deliverables

  • Assisting with communication of progress to senior leaders, including by participating in CT REIT’s internal Sustainability Committee

  • Acting as a point of escalation when issues arise

  • Monitoring trends in ESG programs and reporting

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, data science, computer science, sustainability or related field

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience (or equivalent education)

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders

  • Self-motivated with ability to work effectively in a team

  • Demonstrated experience managing projects, timelines, and budgets

  • Ability to communicate effectively in different formats to a variety of stakeholders

  • Data management and analysis

  • Proven analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams)

Assets

  • Master’s degree in related field

  • Experience developing and implementing ESG/sustainability programs

  • Familiarity with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard and similar standards

  • Prior ESG reporting experience (e.g., GRESB, CPD, climate reporting, Scope 1, 2, 3 GHG emissions)

  • Knowledge of sustainable building strategies and programs

  • Experience conducting or participating in data assurance

  • Experience with greenhouse gas accounting and designing and/or managing a greenhouse gas inventory

  • Experience with IBM Envizi ESG Suite, or similar ESG reporting tools

  • Experience with climate risk assessments and/or climate risk mitigation

    Must be available to work in the office for four days per week.
