This role is a hybrid work arrangement. Work schedule to be discussed with Hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.

This is a contract role for a project that will end in June 2026.

Reporting to the Senior Director, you will be responsible for managing financial and business administrative activities and services for the Marketing and Communications team including business planning, budgeting, cost management, forecasting, analysis and reporting, as well as contract management, and purchasing/invoice management. You will be responsible for providing timely reports and rigorous financial analyses, in keeping with the activities of the Marketing and Communications team. This includes conducting detailed and complex analysis and research of financial information and other non-financial data to support those activities. You will also be responsible for managing a Senior Financial Analyst which would include setting of performance objectives and evaluation.

Key Tasks:

  • Performs month end functions related to booking of costs and revenue as well the preparation and submission of various reports to corporate controller’s team.

  • Prepares and consolidates monthly financial reports on a departmental basis, consisting of detailed re-forecasts, support for incurred costs, and variance analysis.

  • Consolidates departmental forecasts and analyzes information and trends to ensure that spending is within allocated budgets. Identifies existing and potential problems and recommends alternatives and solutions.

  • Investigates forecast-to-budget variances and obtains explanations where required; summarizes overall departmental financial position; provides recommendations on where savings can be realized and/or where resources can be reallocated to maximize profit.

  • Ensures consolidated financial information is loaded into financial systems (SAP & TM1) and ties to allocated budget.

  • Provides on-going analysis, evaluation, advice and guidance on projects and departmental expenditures, future planning and effective utilization of workforce, in consultation with business managers.

  • Works with the Senior Director and other Marketing and Communications management team members to plan and develop the annual departmental, marketing, publicity, scheduling, research and paid media budgets.

  • Assists in developing financial plans and strategies related to new initiatives, priorities and other projects.

  • Analyzes new requests and researches funding requirements; sets deadlines for individual components; reviews and analyzes budget for completeness, accuracy and consistency with overall business plans and strategic objectives.

  • Coordinates the accounting activities of the unit as they relate to Fiscal year end.

  • Works with Finance to resolve any GAAP/IFRS compliance issues.

  • Supports the efficient and effective financial services of the department (e.g. explains finance policies, locates supporting documentation for charges, access requested information in SAP, and advises management on the financial impact of all decisions).

  • Manages a Senior Financial Analyst, including setting annual performance objectives and performance and development dialogue process

  • Ensures the appropriate application and adherence to corporate policies, guidelines and procedures, collective agreements and other business and administrative matters .

Requirements

  • Position requires a university degree in Business or a related field, as well as a professional accounting designation and at least 6 years of related experience.

  • Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

  • Knowledge of program planning, budgeting, financial and contract management.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Working knowledge of SAP, TM1 and Cognos is an asset.

  • Creativity is required during the developmental stages of budgeting and planning, particularly when providing financial alternatives and solutions that meet departmental goals and objectives within allocated budgets and limited resources.

  • Position requires creativity in presenting complex financial information and analysis in such a way as to be useful and clear to departmental management.

  • Tact and diplomacy is an important part of this position.

  • Good writing skills are also essential in order to express in clear, concise language sometimes complex financial information.

  • This position is required to handle multiple priorities and respond to several urgent demands in a short space of time.

  • The incumbent must be able to exercise professional judgment and work independently, taking initiative; concentration is required to focus on complex financial analysis.

  • The job requires the ability to conduct in-depth analysis of problems before determining how to proceed, as well as quick analysis and decision-making required for dealing with problems.
