POSITION OVERVIEW:

The primary role of the Event Content Specialist is to support the development and execution of successful B2B and B2C events and provide administrative support to the event content team.

Reporting to the Head of Event Content, the Event Content Specialist will contribute to revenue-driving events by completing a wide range of tasks including liaising with clients, the sales team, the newsroom and The Globe events team to build event concepts, programs and agendas, conducting research on potential speakers, and developing and maintaining a speaker and program database. They will also negotiate speaker fees, draft speaker contracts, assist with pre-event planning and on-site execution as needed, and conduct post-event reporting.

This person will ideally have an editorial background or conference editor experience and be comfortable liaising with a wide range of stakeholders including clients, sales reps, speakers, speaker agents, executives, vendors, journalists, and the rest of the events team.

They will have previous experience with B2B and B2C events. They will know what differentiates The Globe and Mail brand and will be able to effectively convey our unique perspective to potential clients, event attendees, sponsors and speakers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist content team on execution of assigned events, including copy writing, speaker discovery and booking, collection of speaker materials, coordination of pre-event discovery/preparation calls, preparation of speaker and moderating notes, proofreading of event materials, on-site management of speakers and writing of post-event summaries.

  • Participate in partner/sponsor meetings, newsroom consultation and journalistic research to help develop event concepts and outlines that meet The Globe and Mail brand standards and the objectives of external sponsors and partners.

  • Prepare essential event documentation such as event overviews in Google Sheets, speaker itineraries, event survey questions, and speaker contracts as needed.

  • Support events content team by researching potential speakers and developing and maintaining a speaker and program database.

  • Support the events team by providing updates and information on new event developments, confirmed speakers, program changes and other details.

  • Work with event execution partners (eg. Epiq) to ensure a high standard of on-screen/on-stage content production for live events.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in journalism, communications, event management, marketing or business or equivalent of work experience

  • 2-3 years experience in media, journalism or equivalent work experience

  • 2-3 years experience in B2B and B2C events

  • Demonstrated journalism skills and knowledge

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills

  • Advanced research and conference editing skills

  • Strong Excel skills

  • Excellent writing skills, a professional demeanor and entrepreneurial spirit

  • Strong ability to juggle multiple priorities without dropping balls and an enthusiastic, can-do attitude.

  • Problem-solving is often required in this role.

  • Collaborative style; works well with others.
