Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager – Analytics Services, the Engineering Technologist Technician 3 will assist in database maintenance and analysis of water and sewer systems; assist in the maintenance of water and wastewater networks hydraulic models, and to provide technical support related to Toronto Water programs and services as necessary.

To receive direction from engineers/senior engineers, project managers/senior project managers, Civil Engineering Technologists (CET), GIS Application Analysts, Engineering Technologist Technician 1 (ETT1).

Various office equipment, mechanical, digital, analogue, wireless computerized equipment and other equipment.

Job Functions:

  • Investigates and/or inspects, summarizes, and analyzes information and data from TWAG (Toronto Water Asset Geodatabase), Hansen, and other relevant databases utilizing CADD/GIS tools and Microsoft Office applications, and makes recommendations.

  • Investigates and/or inspects, extracts, summarizes, and analyzes water billing data and information, and makes recommendations.

  • Collects, compiles, reviews, evaluates, and analyzes water, sewer, and stormwater data for input to system modelling and study needs, and prepares reports related to water, sewer, and stormwater and/or Toronto Water unit programs

  • Searches, evaluates, and analyzes existing (or missing) records, notes, plans in response to inquiries and project needs, and makes recommendations.

  • Reads and interprets technical drawings, technical forms such as water service cards and Records of Alterations (ROAs), engineering sketches/notes, water billing data, asset condition rating reports, and consultants project deliverables.

  • Transforms information from sources such as plans/technical records and drawings, water service cards, asset condition rating data including watermain break records and CCTV report, fire flow testing report, records of alterations (ROAs) into Toronto Water Asset Geodatabase (TWAG) and/or other digital data formats.

  • Maintains and updates TWAG asset inventories, ancillary tracking layers such as as-built/redline/record drawings tracking, Records of Alterations (ROAs) tracking, Fire flow testing tracking, data Error Log tracking, and/or other digital data system based data received and data errors/gaps reported, field inspections, and consultant’s digital deliverables such as GIS files.

  • Attends meetings as needed.

  • Corresponds and communicates with internal and external stakeholders as needed. Ensures contractors are performing work in accordance with permits, safety regulations according to tenders and specifications.

  • Operates and maintains a variety of mechanical, digital, analogue, wireless, computerized and other equipment to perform tasks.

  • Prepares and checks data map and statistical data summaries using CADD and GIS tools in response to complaints and inquiries, both internal and external

  • Prepares and edits technical drawings, as applicable.

  • Responds to complaints and inquiries related to TWAG and hydraulic models.

  • Assists with the preparing and updating of SOPs (standard operation procedures), flow charts, work instructions related to TWAG maintenance and hydraulic modelling.

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Post-secondary degree or diploma in an engineering program or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  2. Experience in CADD and/or GIS operations or database maintenance using various CADD, GIS, and database tools (i.e. AutoCAD, ArcGIS, QGIS, and Microsoft suite such as Excel/Access or other software) or the equivalent of applications and tools for drafting/mapping, database maintenance, modelling, or analysis, etc.

  3. Experience in the preparation of data files, data maps, data summaries and generating graphical summaries

  4. Experience in one of the following fields: design and construction, operation and maintenance, asset planning and management, infrastructure condition assessment related to water, wastewater, stormwater management, or transportation systems.

You must also have:

  • Knowledge in civil/municipal engineering, design and construction of storm sewers, sanitary sewers, watermain and stormwater management facilities, and transportation systems

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, documents and technical drawings

  • Capacity to work effectively in a project team environment

  • Ability to perform manual and computerized mathematical calculations in an engineering environment

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to work under pressure and multi-task

  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize and work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity, and respectful workplaces.

  • Possession of valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and access to a motor vehicle to travel to various work locations within GTA for business purposes would be an asset

  • Eligibility for membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (O.A.C.E.T.T.) would be an asset
