JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Electrical and Control Tech'n/Technologist.

This position is responsible for troubleshooting, assessing, inspecting, adjusting, and making repairs to a variety of electrical and control equipment and instrumentation of the facilities’ systems; develop, configure, and utilize data acquisition systems; as well as the calibration, monitoring, and modifying of flow, pressure, temperature, and level instrumentation.

Key accountabilities include inspection and maintenance work required on the facilities high, medium and low voltage systems, distribution, controls and other equipment.

The ideal candidate would have experience in a variety of environmental and performance testing, as well as field data acquisition.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks and actively participate in the periodic teardown and internal inspection of major equipment and subcAomponents.

  • Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, service, maintain and overhaul and assist with the design for all electrical/ electronic/control/protection/telecommunication or testing equipment, associated with generating stations and facilities. 

  • Prepare electrical, control, instrumentation, protection and telecommunication sketches, drawings, and bills of material.

  • Carry out a variety of measurements including testing of electrical equipment to recognized standards and procedures.

  • Determine generating system reliability and power system production. 

  • Participate in studies associated with energy production, load and capacity, demand management, etc., and provide regular and on-demand reports.  Establish and maintain documentation / program files.

  • Provide technical support, advice, coordination and assistance regarding emerging work, projects and daily routines, including the development of technical/operational solutions to problems.

EDUCATION

  • Highschool Diploma or equivalent

  • Two-year Diploma in Instrumentation Tech/Technologist; Electrical Tech/Technologist; Electronics Tech/Technologist; Electromechanical Engineering Technology

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong commitment to Safety, Environmental Compliance, and Plant Reliability;

  • Proven organizational skills, high work standards, strong technical abilities and personal accountability;

  • Ability to maintain excellent records and documentation control;

  • Experience with reading and interpreting measuring tools, graphs, and technical manuals;

  • Experience in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience in maintaining PLC systems;

  • Ability to work at height and in confined spaces.

  • Ability to operated equipment such as forklift and elevated work platform.

  • Ability to work in hot and cold temperatures and environments.

  • Strong computer skills

  • Hold a G class drivers licence in good standing

  • Flexibility to work shifts if required.

  • Ability to travel 75%
