What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Banking, Wealth and Corporate Controller, the Director, Wealth Controller (the “Wealth Controller”) supports the Wealth strategic business units by leading a team of finance professionals to deliver on accurate and timely financial results used for statutory, regulatory, subsidiary, and management reporting for these business units. The Wealth Controllers is responsible for month-end and quarter-end tasks, including financial analysis and reporting, subsidiary board reporting, and addressing ad hoc queries and investigations. As a trusted advisor and stakeholder on strategic finance projects and business initiatives, the Wealth Controller drives operational excellence and continuous improvements while collaborating closely with broader finance team and cross-functional groups.

How you’ll succeed

  • Relationship building - Establish strong relationships and communication with the Wealth business for decision support, accounting guidance, investigative analysis and issues.

  • Control focused - Ensure compliance with accounting standards and effective end-to-end financial process controls are executed in your line of business.

  • Talent development - Lead and develop a high-performance controllership team along with oversight of an offshore managed service team.

  • General ledger ownership – Ensure accurate and timely month end close of the finance general ledger, clear explanation of Wealth business financial results and timely resolution of control deficiencies and/or weaknesses

  • Operational excellence – Drive for excellence with continuous improvements that strengthen controls to manage financial reporting risks, streamline finance operational processes and increase productivity across the team

  • Deliver on purpose – Affect positive teamwork across finance and cross-functional teams with CIBC purpose focus and behaviours

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate 10+ years of relevant work experience in complex financial service organizations in a controller or senior accounting leadership role . You will have strong accounting background and experience, along with knowledge of IFRS and excellent communication skills to be able to translate technical guidance into business terms and implications It’s an asset if you have comprehensive knowledge of wealth product offerings and services, along with their systems and processes.

  • You're a certified professional. You have current accreditation and good standing in the CPA or equivalent.

  • You are a caring and accountable leader. You are passionate about developing and growing team members' abilities. You have experience providing coaching, having difficult conversations and hands on support to meet team goals.
