Your role
CBC is currently seeking an Associate Producer that will participate in the preparation and production of programming for Dragons' Den .
With appropriate direction from one or more Producers, participates in the production, direction and/or postproduction of a program and/or program segment. Work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, practices and standards but initiative and independent judgment are required. There is often a requirement to co-ordinate the activities of others.
Key Tasks:
Contributes ideas for program content; participates in the preparation of program objectives.
Assists in developing program content including writing, researching, and/or editing. Prepares scripts; ensures adherence to the style and format of the program.
Organizes the participation of interviewees, creative contributors and other participants, develops background, introduction, and line of questioning, conducts or arranges for any necessary research, and ensures the briefing of hosts.
Maintains contact files.
Participates in the evaluation of all aspects of the production.
As required, performs the following tasks:
Select music and/or sound effects.
Produce program elements.
Direct a program, either live or pre-packaged, in studio or at a remote location.
Assign, direct and co-ordinate the work of other personnel working on a project for which the Producer is responsible.
Direct the editing and mixing of audio and/or visual elements.
Write continuity, edit text, edit and prepare voice-overs for broadcast.
Produce video material for the website using appropriate technologies.
Assist in maintaining a level of communication or rapport with members of the audience which is both feasible and appropriate to the style and nature of the program.
Perform other production or administrative tasks associated with the smooth functioning of the program unit and station.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
A University degree or equivalent.
A minimum of two years’ experience working on a reality based program with strong emphasis on writing skills and a journalism background.
Experience in computers and the technology of television broadcasting.
Experience in assisting in the production of reality-based television programs that interest, engage, and entertain a broad cross-section of viewers.
Experience with business television and unscripted programming.
Demonstrated experience and understanding in the areas of small business, venture capital, and business start-ups/entrepreneurship.
Experience in developing lines of questioning, writing focused introductions and preparing and writing tape segments.
Familiarity with network television production and editing techniques.
Experience with business television and reality-based television programs an asset.
Experience and understanding in the areas of small business, venture capital, and business start-ups/entrepreneurship an asset.
Experience working with visuals and the ability to think creatively.
Ability to write clearly and concisely.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Independent, self-motivated and self-sufficient.
Ability to generate creative and original ideas.
Good judgment and problem solving.
Excellent organization skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overtime and weekends as required.
