What You’ll Be Doing

As part of the Institutional Equity Trading team at CIBC, your key responsibilities will include supporting the Retail Block Desk, which serves investment advisors, portfolio managers, and retail brokers affiliated with CIBC. Additionally, you will execute normal course issuer bids and manage at-the-market offerings for our corporate clients. This role involves cultivating relationships with both retail and corporate clients of CIBC, emphasizing the importance of relationship building, business development, and collaboration with internal stakeholders such as Legal, Operations, and Banking departments.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Trading strategies - Demonstrated ability to manage large Canadian and US block orders by utilizing complex trading strategies for CIBC’s corporate and retail clients.

  • Relationship management - Cultivating relationships with new and existing clients through a strong knowledge of financial markets and products, along with a comprehensive understanding of client needs.

  • Client focused - Delivering market commentary, insights, and guidance to clients.

  • Collaboration and problem solving- Collaborating closely with internal partners to ensure seamless client coverage and identify cross-selling opportunities. Skillfully breaking down complex tasks into manageable components.

  • Risk mitigation - Conducting day-to-day monitoring of associated inventories to maintain limited risk exposure.

Who You Are

  • You have attained a university degree in Economics, Finance, Commerce, or Business, with a preference for a Master’s degree.

  • You can demonstrate 3-5 years of relevant industry experience.

  • You can demonstrate a strong knowledge of the Equity Markets business including share buybacks and at-the-market offerings.

  • You embrace and advocate for change. Ability to quickly acquire new knowledge, demonstrate competence, and add value to transactions and client relationships. You have natural ability to thrive in a fast-paced, transaction-driven environment.

  • You’re passionate about people . Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills to effectively develop and maintain productive client relationships.

  • You can demonstrate exceptional oral and written communication skills. Additionally, you have strong analytical and conceptual skills and are comfortable with managing legal documentation and contracts.

  • You know that details matter . Proven attention to detail and accuracy.

  • You’re a certified professional . Completion of the Canadian Securities Course, Trader Training, and Conduct and Practices Handbook is mandatory.

  • You are technically savvy . Proficiency with Fidessa and Bloomberg platforms. Experience with Python, VBA, and C# is considered an asset.
