What You’ll Be Doing

The Capital Markets arm of CIBC provides corporate, government and institutional clients with innovative solutions to help them raise capital, grow and invest actively throughout North America and key financial centres around the world. Our vision is to be our clients’ preferred capital markets banking partner across multiple products and services.

Global Credit Financing (GCF) is a financing business focused on the origination, asset financing, and securitization activities of various debt based products for the Bank’s core clients. GCF is a product vertical under the Global Markets Financing and Financial Resource Management (GMF-FRM) which manages the allocation, deployment, and optimization of financial resources such as capital and balance sheet on behalf of and across the Global Markets Division.

You will support the origination, structuring and execution of Securitization products within the Global Credit Financing business in CIBC Capital Markets. The role operates in a fast-paced trading floor environment as part of a dynamic and hardworking origination team. The incumbent’s mandate is to provide exceptional service and support to Securitization, CIBC internal partners and external clients, with a focus on activities that will help support the growth of the Securitization business at CIBC. This includes: client presentations, data modeling and other transaction support activities that assist group members in winning and executing mandates.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Relationship building - Work in deal teams to close transaction mandates. This will include global interaction with other areas of the trading floor including derivatives, fixed income trading, money markets, and debt syndication. This will also include interaction with the client, external rating agencies, and other CIBC partners including Treasury, Risk Management, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Tax. Together with other deal team members, attend due diligence sessions at client premises, record information obtained at the session, and prepare due diligence notes. Work closely with the various Global Markets teams as well as Investment Banking, Corporate Banking and Commercial Banking on exploring opportunities, developing market views, and bringing deals to the public or private markets.

  • Risk management - Evaluate collateral pools, legal agreements and transaction structures to identify risks and required mitigants.

  • Financial modeling - Create and conduct financial modeling tasks for the deal team, including reporting on modeling results and making them understandable and presentable to clients.

  • Client engagement - Prepare presentations and conduct research on clients to assist senior team members in securing new mandates, which will involve researching, collecting, analyzing and organizing information in a manner that is presentable to clients.

Who You Are

  • You have an u ndergraduate degree or MBA/Masters in Finance, Commerce, Science, Technology, Engineering or Math.

  • You can demonstrate 1–3 years of related business experience or demonstrated ability to perform the role. Strong writing and oral communication skills, incorporating the ability to explain detailed financial analysis. Knowledge of corporate finance theory, financial analysis and valuation techniques.

  • You act like an owner. A results-oriented self-starter who will show a keen interest in the Securitization business.

  • You’re motivated by collective success. Team player who excels at working collaboratively with others in a group setting.

  • You know that details matter. Proven ability to pay close attention to detail and execute transactions within tight timeframes with an analytic/systematic approach. Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task. Efficient organizational skills to respond to shifting priorities on several simultaneous transactions.

  • You give meaning to data. Strong technical/computer and analytical skills, including high proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
