Job Purpose:

As a member of the CBC News Ops Team and reporting to the Sr. Manager of Capability Development and Innovation, you will play a key role in projects and initiatives that are essential to delivering the capabilities that CBC News requires to realize its mission and audience strategy.

As Advisor, you will lead the planning, implementation and assessment of complex projects and initiatives that will transform content creation and delivery. You will build a collaborative work environment and have the opportunity to work with teams across the organization. To be successful in this role, you will need an understanding of media production and metadata-driven workflows.

You will support change management initiatives by facilitating communication between project team members and stakeholders, ensuring a clear understanding of the proposed changes. You will play a crucial role in identifying potential challenges, developing mitigation strategies, and supporting people throughout the transformation process.

The Advisor will apply business rigour and methodology to the exploration and evaluation of AI to ensure that CBC News remains a trusted and reliable source of information for Canadians.

The Advisor will also be responsible for coordinating a cross functional group to establish standards and guidelines for the responsible use of AI, based on industry best practices, as well as perform risk assessments and provide recommendations for mitigation to senior management.

This is an exciting opportunity to guide initiatives that will improve the audience experience, making it easy for people to discover and follow our stories. You will be involved in projects to implement new tools and workflows that will make it easier for us to create and distribute content.

Our content production, publication and presentation environment is composed of many platforms and systems supported by a number of functional groups within the organization. The ability to collaborate with these teams and align our collective efforts is key to succeeding in this role.

You will be expected to gather business requirements through various facilitation and discovery methods with multiple collaborators, then analyse and interpret these requirements to define project outcomes, deliverables, schedules and execution plans. By analyzing data, you will identify and implement efficiencies to optimize business processes to ensure the sustainability and expansion of new initiatives.

Main responsibilities and impact:

  • Advises, guides and provides support in project planning, implementation, and assessment

  • Advises, guides, and provides support in change management initiatives

  • Analyzes data to identify efficiencies and optimize human, material, financial resources, and project activities

  • Assesses feasibility and identifies risks, recommends mitigation solutions that take into account the organizational objectives and policies

  • Evaluate the time and resources required in conjunction with stakeholders.

  • Guides the definition of project metrics with stakeholders, and validates the various stages of development of the project to ensure business objectives are met.

  • Facilitates and documents stakeholder engagement sessions to build consensus and alignment across the organization

  • Ensures processes are in place to track actual progress against initial expectations throughout the various stages of the project, facilitates solutioning to technical and operational problems and constraints.

  • Assumes responsibility for all required communication, including regular progress reports, and flags issues for escalation as appropriate.

  • Respects best practices in project management and business planning to strengthen standards of quality and productivity.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and training

Experience (relevant to the role) :

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in project and change management

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experienced/familiar with traditional/waterfall, Agile, and hybrid project methodologies and best practices

  • Experienced/familiar with implementing strategic plans

  • Experienced/familiar with media production and publication processes in a news environment

  • Experienced/familiar with leveraging metadata-driven workflows to improve content discovery and distribution

  • Analysis skills: derive business insights from data to identify and implement efficiencies and optimize business processes

  • Leadership skills: positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the organization

  • Communication skills: speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques that are appropriate for the audience, situation, and desired outcome

  • Ability to understand stakeholder needs, navigate seemingly conflicting requirements, and manage expectations

  • Resilient, empathetic, collaborative, team-oriented, results-driven

  • Negotiation skills (internal and external) - a strong asset

  • Functional bilingualism (English/French) - a strong asset
