CBC ABILICREW PLACEMENTS FOR EXCELLENCE PROGRAM

This role is a hybrid work arrangement. Work schedule to be discussed with the hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.

**TORONTO

This role described below is part of CBC’s CAPE program which is specifically for people with disabilities* . CAPE is a six-month paid placement program that aims to kick-start the careers of people with disabilities, eliminate barriers to employment, showcase individual talents and generate more discussion, learning and content related to disability, accessibility and inclusion.

The program will run from Monday, January 13 to Friday, June 27, 2025.

What do you need to be eligible?

  • You must self-identify as a person with a disability*.

  • You must have no prior long-term work experience with the CBC.

  • You must be able to work legally in Canada.

  • You must be available for the assigned workweek during the program, to be discussed during the interview process ( up to 38.75 hours-some roles have more flexibility).

*The Accessible Canada Act definition of disability:

“means any impairment, including a physical, mental, intellectual, cognitive, learning, communication or sensory impairment—or a functional limitation—whether permanent, temporary or episodic in nature, or evident or not, that, in interaction with a barrier, hinders a person’s full and equal participation in society."

Ideally the successful candidate will be based in Toronto. This position offers accommodation opportunities such as telework/ remote and flexible schedules.

Part of the CAPE program includes attending weekly online group meetings with other CAPE participants. These meetings will be scheduled with your manager’s approval.

Your role and how you will make an impact:

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Administrative Professional to provide support for projects and initiatives connected to the Staffing and Culture Strategy for CBC News. This position is ideal for someone who has interest in all aspects of staffing: recruitment, inclusive hiring practices, onboarding, development, workplace culture. You will be working in an ever-changing, fast-paced and demanding environment where the ability to see the big picture, flexibility, juggle priorities and activities is an asset.

The ideal candidate for this role is….

  • The ideal candidate for this role is resourceful, a good problem solver, detail oriented, organized and enjoys working within a professional administrative environment. An interest in working in a news and media environment is also an asset.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide support to CBC News’ staffing & culture committee regarding projects, administrative matters and procedures.

  • Investigate and resolve problems related to departmental administrative matters.

  • Work with confidential and sensitive information relating to communications, policy and regulatory matters, financial activities and impacts, and external relations.

  • Prepare written and visual material, agendas and minutes as required.

  • Organize and arrange meetings, conferences and staff functions.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Hands-on experience with at least one year in an administrative role supporting a large department.

  • Technical skills, such as expertise in the Google Suite, ability to quickly learn other applications and our internal CBC systems.

  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both spoken and written.

  • Highly developed administrative and organizational skills.

  • Sound judgment and initiative.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, work under pressure.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.

  • Manage confidential files and correspondences.

  • Requires the ability to comprehend and act timely on complex and sensitive matters.

  • Must be able to act independently.

  • Discretion, diplomacy and professional tact in communications with staff at alllevels of the organization as well with external stakeholders.

  • A strong sense of collaboration. You thrive in a team-focused environment andhave excellent relationship-building skills.

  • Flexibility to take on new tasks as required and the initiative to see new opportunities for making improvements.

  • General knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada is an asset.

  • An interest in news and a media environment is an asset.
