In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Corporate Communications team currently has a temporary Communications Specialist opportunity. As part of our Corporate Affairs division, Corporate Communications is accountable for sharing Bruce Power news and business updates with employees, as well as the strategic dissemination of Bruce Power information with external parties.

The temporary Communications Specialist rotation is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual to work with several client groups, including employees, community members, investors, regulators, Indigenous peoples, media, and all levels of government, while producing creative written, visual, and social media content for the company's social media platforms, web sites as well as, community outreach, and employee communication vehicles.

The individual hired for this opportunity will be directly supporting corporate communications and will be situated on-site.

This is a temporary position which may be for a period of up to 24 months, offers a competitive compensation package and is located on-site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Social media content creation and development. Strong social media skills including strategy development, content creation and management of social platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram).

  • Create and implement a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with the overall marketing and communication goals and adheres to brand guidelines.

  • Familiarity with Hootsuite to track, analyze and report on social media performance.

  • Prepare key messages, news articles, presentations, briefing notes and internal and external messages and work with various departments within the company to deliver corporate messages.

  • Develop and successfully deliver strategic, multi-media communication plans for a variety of issues from concept through production. Ensure those plans and supporting material aligns to Bruce Power's brand standards and business objectives.

  • Proactively identify and manage ongoing and emerging issues. Develop strategic messages and appropriate communication platforms to best deliver those messages to target audiences.

  • Develop advocates through the creation and maintenance of positive relationships with key internal and external groups, including employees, community members, investors, pensioners, regulators, customers, service clubs, Indigenous Peoples, industry participants, media, municipal government, provincial and federal government, and non-governmental organizations.

  • Proactively identify and implement emerging communications methods and tools to ensure the Bruce Power story is told widely, accurately and in a timely fashion.

  • Prepare and conduct public and media events. Facilitate workshops, community outreach efforts, promotional and media events.

  • Support the company's Emergency Preparedness program by having a key role in internal and external communications activities.

  • Familiarity with advertising and support with managing the company’s advertising campaigns.

  • As assigned, represent Bruce Power at community, industry, government, media, or employee functions.

  • Create and manage mechanisms for measuring internal communications.

  • Accompany site guests on station tours.

  • Obtain additional training qualifications to fulfil this role.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Requires knowledge of internal communications, employee engagement, public relations, journalism, or mass media with a strong focus on communications, planning and issue management to effectively deliver sound communications programs and identify impacts on employee and public relations.

  • Proficiency in social media including tools and management. Familiarity with managing social media business accounts is an asset.

  • Requires knowledge of project management techniques to effectively coordinate and manage communications projects and programs, including the design and delivery of such programs.

  • Requires excellent communications skills in English to effectively communicate orally and in writing with all levels of corporate staff and stakeholders via multiple vehicles.

Education and Experience:

  • This knowledge is considered to normally be acquired through the completion of Grade XII plus a minimum of a two-year Community College course in Journalism/Media Relations or the equivalent.

  • A period of over 10 years of experience is considered necessary to gain the experience required for this position.
