Equitable is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our organization as a Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Transformation Leader. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the transformation of our SOX compliance program, ensuring its effectiveness, efficiency and alignment with industry best practices and regulatory standards. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements, enhance internal controls and drive organizational change to achieve a streamlined and sustainable SOX compliance framework.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for transforming the organization's SOX compliance program.

  • Lead the technology enabled controls design to support current finance process changes and alignment with existing SOX processes, controls and documentation to identify areas for improvement and optimization.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders including Finance, Legal, Internal Audit and IT to ensure alignment and integration of SOX compliance efforts.

  • Drive the design and implementation of enhanced internal controls, including the development of control frameworks, policies and procedures.

  • Provide strategic guidance and hands-on support to process owners and control owners in implementing and maintaining effective SOX controls.

  • Conduct risk assessments and gap analyses to identify control deficiencies and develop remediation plans.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SOX controls through testing and ongoing monitoring activities.

  • Stay current with evolving regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to SOX compliance.

  • Lead training and awareness initiatives to promote a strong culture of compliance and accountability throughout the organization.

  • Build, mentor and lead team members and new initiatives, to foster a culture of professional excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with external auditors to ensure timely completion of SOX audits and address any audit findings or recommendations.

The base salary range for this position is $105,000 - $156,000. Actual base salaries vary based on skills, experience, and geographical location. In addition to base pay, Equitable provides compensation to reward performance with base salary increases, spot bonuses, and short-term incentive compensation opportunities. Eligibility for these programs depends on level and functional area of responsibility.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in SOX compliance, internal controls and risk management, preferably in a leadership role.

  • Established knowledge of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, COSO framework and other relevant regulatory requirements and frameworks.

  • Proven track record of successfully leading SOX transformation initiatives, including process improvements and automated controls.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Experience working in SOX and MAR within the insurance industry or financial services.

  • Successful collaboration with external auditors and managing SOX audits.

  • Proficiency in using SOX compliance software and tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CIA, CISA)

  • Proven analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.

  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Internal Controls: Knowledge of concept, methods, and processes of internal control; ability to create, implement, evaluate and enhance processes in internal controls.

Knowledge of Reinsurance: Knowledge of reinsurance activities, processes, tools, and considerations; ability to implement all reinsurance practices following all standards, applicable laws and regulations.

Operational Functions: Knowledge of major functional processes and associated operating requirements; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.

Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Results Orientation: Knowledge of the importance of meeting or exceeding established targets; ability to drive critical activities to completion.
