National Grid Data Governance, Gas Data Co-op in Syracuse, New York

What You'll Do

The Gas Business Unit, Data Governance team has established several capabilities that you, as a Co-op student, will be able to leverage throughout your time with us. This candidate will help to define several essential business goals and support the confidentiality of our Gas Data information - ensuring National Grid's gas data domain transformation, migration, and business interface are maintained.

During this Co-op opportunity, you, as a candidate, will have the chance to support in the many data governance activities such as Data Change Analysis, Data Risk, Data Profiling, Data Community of practice and more. In addition to monitoring National Grid’s data catalog and working with our IT team to troubleshoot any issues that may arise. In working on evaluating data efforts and helping data-driven decision-making for different situations – you will also support creating business standards, evaluating data remediation, and standardization efforts.

Lastly, you will also get the opportunity to observe various facets of this transformational program, such as Work Management, Customer Enablement, and Asset Management/GIS integration with our Enterprise Asset Management.

Qualified applicants will be expected to work 40 hours per week and must be within a commutable distance to either our Waltham or Syracuse offices – understanding that you will be working from 6 to 8 months.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Perform data mining to identify data quality issues, root causes, and resolution based on data management best practices, including standardization efforts

  • Ensure that all the data artifacts for the areas are up to date and centralized (Data/ Gas Catalog, Data Profiling, Business Interface, and Data Governance)

  • Maintain and find solutions to improve the Gas Operations data quality through interactive dashboard reports

  • Support the establishment of data policies and procedures

  • Assist with the coordination of data governance activities and data change impact assessment process​

  • Support data lineage and validation process for ongoing data mapping activities

What You'll Need

  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States

  • Located within a commutable distance to the identified work location

  • Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time through the Spring 2025 semester

  • Pursuing a degree in either Computer Science/ Data Analytics, Data Science, Data Algorithms, Mathematics, Business Analytics or a related major

  • Accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age

  • Coursework and/or experience in data analysis, data profiling, data standardization/ cleansing, data migration and data quality measurement

  • Familiarity in, SSMS, PowerBI, Maximo, Salesforce and GIS is preferred

  • Proficiency in Excel and advanced reporting/ formula creation

It would be great if you are:

  • Solution-driven, creative and have the ability to work both independently and in group settings

  • Able to facilitate and support with presentations in order to communicate data findings

Work Structure Overview

This co-op opportunity is classified as Remote , meaning in person work will be dependent on important meetings/ events, in-person trainings and etc. As a requirement, you must be located within a commutable distance to either our Syracuse, NY or Waltham, MA offices. To continue with our commitment of transparency, more information will be shared about your work model as we get closer to your start date and would be in accordance with National Grid policies.

Salary Range

$17.00 - $23.00 an hour (Undergraduate Student)

$28.00 - $31.00 an hour (Graduate Student)

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, location, degree type, and class year.
