We want to find an innovative, adaptable, and results-oriented Chapter Leader, Infrastructure Engineering for our Digital Platform & Infrastructure Technology department . This position can be located in Waltham, MA, Brooklyn, NY, Hicksville, NY, or Syracuse, NY (candidates may also reside in either Connecticut, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, or Maine). What you'll do

As a Chapter Leader, you'll lead the development of innovative capabilities and implement processes that align with organizational goals, drive performance, and assure quality. You'll create a positive work environment that motivates employees, supports their health and wellbeing, and establishes effective working relationships with suppliers for mutual benefit, all while achieving and maintaining compliance with national and international standards. Your leadership and guidance will empower individuals to reach their full potential and make a lasting impact on our vision.

You'll be responsible for leading and managing a collaborative, cross-functional group of infrastructure engineering professionals within a centralized IT organization. This role is critical for ensuring the optimal design, implementation, and support to operate infrastructure engineering across cloud, data center, end user, and data network domains. You'll foster innovation, knowledge-sharing, and the continuous improvement of infrastructure engineering standards and best practices. This position requires strategic leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to align infrastructure engineering capabilities with the broader organizational goals, ensuring the reliability, safety and security of critical and enterprise systems. Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Establish the right standards:

o Define expected practices & guardrails and chapter member technical output based on industry best practices

o Ensure that infrastructure engineering aligns with National Grid’s future state blueprint and road map

o Review & manage Chapter Lead performance

  • Develop the right skills:

o Map expected competencies & certifications

o Design career path including performance expectations and promotion criteria

o Partner with Learning and Development teams to design targeted training

o Ensure personal and professional well-being of your team

  • Deliver the right capacity:

o Track supply of and aggregate demand for Chapter resources

o Collaborate with executive leadership to ensure Chapter members are allocated to the most impactful Teams unlocking business value

o Collaborate with other Chapter Leads to facilitate career moves across Chapters for career growth & cross-training

o Develop a recruiting strategy for Chapter members and participate in recruiting process by making final hiring recommendations

  • Manage / deliver for internal and external stakeholders:

o Demonstrate subject matter expertise in all areas of development and innovation in Chapter domain

o Ensure Platform Leads and other stakeholders know what resources and knowledge are available to them

o Collaborate with executive leadership to ensure Chapter members are allocated to the most impactful teams

  • Infrastructure Engineering Focus:

o Facilitate collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and best practice adoption across the infrastructure engineering community

o Establish and promote frameworks and guidelines for the standardization of infrastructure architecture, design principles, and operational procedures

o Organize workshops, seminars, and training programs to upskill infrastructure engineering teams and keep them current on emerging trends

About you

  • Master's Degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, or a BS/BA degree or higher in a technical discipline

  • Experience in strategic technology leadership, IT infrastructure, analytics, and outsourcing management

  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing people and teams

  • Experience with resource planning and allocation within and across organizations

  • Depth and breadth across the infrastructure engineering domains, for example: cloud & data center (hyperconverged and converged technologies, file and block storage, backup technologies including long term retention, data archiving, virtual and physical environment management, public/private cloud services) data networking (routing, switching, wired and wireless protocols and design) and end user (device and operating systems management, collaboration and identity systems).

  • Expertise in x86 and AIX Operating systems

  • Knowledge of micro segmentation across both physical and virtual environments

  • Experience with ServiceNow in configuring workflows, and integrating with other systems

  • Skills in automating infrastructure using Terraform, VMware Aria automation, PowerShell, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC)

  • Understanding of infrastructure engineering best practices, design to operate principles, and product lifecycle management

  • Experience working in Agile methodologies – SAFE, Scrum, Kanban, etc

Our organization follows a hybrid work structure in our service territory (NY & MA and adjacent states) where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed. Salary

Dowstate NY $212,000 - $249,000 a year

Massachusetts $197,000 - $232,000 a year

Upstate NY $176,000 - $207,000 a year

Salary is commensurate with experience and location

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
