Job Purpose

Provide high quality customer service to National Grid’s employees and retirees through effective customer management, development of efficient end-to-end processes, and a working knowledge in Defined Contribution “DC” Retirement Plans (401(k) Plan, DC Supplemental Executive Retirement Plan and Non-Qualified Executive Deferred Compensation Pan). Implementing process improvements, encouraging vendors to improve/enhance their service delivery. Optimize administrations and service delivery of DC plans and programs, through coordination of internal and external stakeholders in development of plan provisions and programs that are beneficial to National Grid and their employees.

*Overall responsibilities span the company’s current and historical DC benefits for employees, retirees, and beneficiaries.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the National Grid’s Defined Contribution Retirement Plans to ensure accurate recordkeeping of, but not limited to; reconciliation of weekly and monthly employee contribution remittance to the record-keeper, delinquent 401(k) loans, required minimum distributions, lost employees, and annual enrollment for non-qualified plans.

  • Help ensure that DC Retirement Plans are administered according to Plan provisions and follow all government regulations. Work with recordkeeper and internal stakeholders on necessary changes.

  • Participate in design and implementation or re-structuring of processes to support new DC plans, policies, and contractual changes with the creation or updating existing SOPs.

  • Recognized as the Employee Services Subject Matter Expert on Defined Contribution plans, policies, procedures, and providers.

  • Keep knowledge-based system up to date for Employee Service Representatives, including issue trends, plan design changes and seasonal preparation.

  • Monitor recordkeeper performance to ensure services delivered exceeds Service Level Agreements and the customer service standards set up by National Grid.

  • Respond to escalated employee issues about Defined Contribution Plans respond to customer issues in a manner that meets or exceeds the timeline designated in the Employee Services’ escalation procedures (case management).

  • Conduct root cause analysis of systemic issues with record-keepers, and partner with providers to implement successful solutions. Understand and investigate complex issues and exceptions and communicates to escalate issues for governance/decisions.

  • Suggest methods to update, simplify, improve, and enhance processes, procedures, and technologies to drive greater efficiencies.

  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to obtain and share information that will benefit National Grid. Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders to share best practice, provide technical advice and build bases of influence.

  • Aid as point contact on annual retirement plan audits, annual true-up review, and non-discrimination testing.Develop and maintain various retirement plan reports and develop ad-hoc reports.

  • Keep up to date with market/regulatory developments within own profession/discipline to ensure National Grid is compliant and uses best practices. Understanding and application of regulations and laws to protect the interest of National Grid as well as the customers.

  • Participate in department continuous improvement workshops and projects.

  • Build upon professional skills and knowledge of DC administration rules to continually grow your personal contribution to the business.

  • Identify, classify, maintain, and protect files, documentation, and sensitive information consistent with record handling and retention requirements.

  • Crossing training Defined Benefit/Pension space.

Qualifications

  • Preferred four-year professional degree in Business or Human Resources preferred.

  • Proficient in Excel and other MS-Office tools.

  • Technical, functional, and experience in Defined Contribution/Defined Benefit plans, Benefits or Human Resource programs, and providers with at least three years’ experience.

  • Able to deliver high quality of customer service in a professional manner, especially when dealing with dissatisfied customers.

  • Strong team development skills; excellent at clarifying common goals among diverse staff members, gaining consensus on an overall approach, and building a collaborative environment.

  • Excellent verbal, written and listening skills.

  • Possible but unlikely travel to other National Grid locations

Annual Salary

$67,000-$79,000

Salary is commensurate with experience.

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
