Job Summary:

The Director of Local Sourcing and Sustainability is accountable for our Customers' success and growth through creating local and sustainable programs at all FreshPoint sites throughout the US. The Director develops and leads FreshPoint's local sourcing and sustainability strategy exceeding industry and customer expectations and unmet needs to deliver the highest value proposition in foodservice. Results will include partnering with sites to drive the local sourcing & sustainability program in each of FreshPoint's operating sites, focused on driving maximum sales growth, meeting customer needs and bringing customers solutions and differentiation.

This leader will:

  • Develop and oversee a national local sourcing program that fuels sales growth in every line of business and in every region/site. This includes enhancing the overall program framework nationally and partnering with individual sites to drive implementation.

  • Connect leaders enterprise-wide to build vision and accelerate sales growth through local sourcing by on boarding more local farms across the US.

  • Lead the national local and sustainable framework, , data, communications and assortment strategy to align with customer portfolio. This will include defining the sustainability attributes (certifications, and self-certified) for Freshpoint customers, work with BT to develop the data systems required to operationalize.

  • Train field sales to leverage the local and sustainable program

  • Train and assist field merchandising to create a strong local and sustainable program at their sites

  • Manage the training and growth of Region Local Product Specialists

  • Implement sustainability initiatives that are focused on the highest sales growth levers, which include but aren't limited to reducing plastic and increasing diverse sourcing

  • Engage with FreshPoint and Sysco national sales leaders to onboard and retain accounts with sustainability goals

• Strategize with VP, Retail to grow retail market share

  • Be an integrated member of the Global Sysco Sustainability team to learn best practices and drive efficiency of developing strategies and execution

  • Develop and activate new growth strategies including Total Team Selling, new local and sustainable categories, improvement of our Sustainability data and communication

• Develop and align to Sysco sustainability strategy & execution plan

Through collaboration with FreshPoint and Sysco, this leader is responsible for local & sustainable programs at the site and region level. The assortment will be curated through a combination of customer, market, region, segment and geographic insights derived from direct customer engagement, transactional, industry and supplier insights. This role will prioritize, strategize, socialize and enable through product information, rich content and business processes to deliver through omni channels.

This role requires a strong understanding of sustainability, customer relationships and sales, ideally with experience in building sustainable assortments, and/or in experience within a sustainability program at a food company.

The Director of Local Sourcing & Sustainability will be responsible for case growth, gross profit and share growth, as aligned with documented strategies, and aligned with FreshPoint priorities.

This role will work collaboratively with both Corporate, Field, Specialty Level execution teams in Sales, Marketing, Merchandising, Finance and Supply Chain.

The scope of this responsibility is FreshPoint Specialty companies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop the existing national framework for the local and sustainable program. Including the national assortment framework, guidelines, data systems. Additionally, work with marketing and communications on collateral

  • Accelerate the growth of local and sustainable programs at active Freshpoint sites (80% of sites)

  • Implement the local and sustainable program at remaining Freshpoint sites (20% of sites)

  • Work with operating companies to deploy local farm, organic, diverse supplier and sustainability strategies, improvement solutions, including procedural/other changes to process to ensure improvements are sustained in delivering results

  • Actively build relationships with Local Farms, Sales and Merchandising teams to facilitate program launch and ongoing implementation

  • Work to identify and deliver significant levels of improvement in sales and purchasing from diverse suppliers

  • Manage project work plans and timelines, impact measurement, and reporting

  • Development of tools- i.e. playbooks, promotions, templates, events, and customer-facing collateral to drive profitable growth and make a positive impact on local & national sales

  • Work collaboratively with Food Safety team to ensure vendors we align with adhere to and maintain all required food safety standards

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and develop learning and development for merchandising and sales leadership

  • Actively engage and promote our local sourcing and sustainability programs with key prospects and customers.

  • Devise and support sales plans to identify and propose these programs to key contract and retail customers

  • Drive the Enterprise Sysco Sustainability Strategy in FreshPoint, leverage and share back best practices

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field is strongly preferred. If no degree, an additional 5 years of relevant experience could be substituted.

Education Preferred:

  • Degree specializing in Agriculture or Sustainability

Experience Required:

  • 3+ years in fresh produce or related food industries

  • 3+ years in sustainability or sustainability adjacent functions where a baseline knowledge of regenerative agriculture, plastics and packaging, local sourcing, climate and other key material topics

Experience Preferred:

  • Sales and customer relationship experience

  • Experience in building a sustainable assortment and driving sustainable growth

  • Additional experience on a working farm including sales or purchasing functions

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel to operating companies, vendors, farms and trade shows as necessary. 20-30% of the year to be used for travel
