Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three (3) years of Human Resources experience to include at least one (1) year of recruiting experience. Strong computer skills including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and database management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional years (3+) of Human Resources experience. Additional years (2+) of recruitment experience. Knowledge of relevant state and federal employment laws and legislation with regard to recruiting. Prior experience recruiting for a healthcare organization or professional positions (non-faculty) within Higher Education. Knowledge of private fundraising. Current HR certifications (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, etc.). Experience working with an applicant tracking system. Adept with using a variety of recruiting technologies to source talent (internet sourcing, direct recruiting, and networking methods).

Brief Description of Duties:

The Talent Sourcing Specialist develops sourcing and recruiting strategies to effectively recruit qualified applicants for Stony Brook University's Advancement Division. The Talent Sourcing Specialist is responsible for sourcing and maintaining a strong pipeline of talented Advancement professionals (i.e. fundraisers) by identifying a well-qualified, diverse pool of candidates through a variety of methods, including but not limited to, job board posting, database searching, cold calling, advertisement, attending career fairs and networking events, social media, and employee referrals. This position must possess considerable skills in interviewing techniques, an understanding of the organizational structure as well as knowledge of SBU personnel policy and procedure and federal and state laws regarding employment recruiting practices.

The selected candidate will have strong interpersonal and customer service skills. They will have excellent communication with the ability to negotiate. They will also exercise strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to build relationships and partner with hiring managers and HR Business Partner for Advancement to determine current and future staffing needs. The Talent Sourcing Specialist will need strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as acumen to make sound business decisions. They will need to be adaptable to meet ever-changing business needs with the ability to work both autonomously and with a team.

  • Develop creative recruiting strategies and proactively build a pipeline of candidates for entry-level, high volume and repeat roles. This will include active and passive candidate sourcing using research tools such as Boolean searches, LinkedIn Recruiter, data mining, etc.

  • Uses traditional and nontraditional resources, such as career fairs, online job fairs, community networking events, etc., to identify and attract quality candidates. Keeps current with sourcing strategies and industry trends. Ensures departmental website listing open positions is accurate and up to date.

  • Identify, evaluate and present new recruitment sources that will generate quality and diverse applicants (inclusive of ethnicity, gender, age and other dimensions of diversity)

  • Responsible for advertising recruitment needs and sourcing candidates through various channels, including social media to ensure high visibility with potential candidates.

  • Evaluate applicant qualifications by partnering with hiring managers to interview applicants, analyze applicant responses, verify references, and compare qualifications to the position requirements. Partner with search firms as needed.

  • Collect and report on data and trends from current employees (skills, level of experience, time in the position, or job performance), cost per hire, time to hire and employee turnover rate.

  • Improve the effectiveness of the talent Sourcing procedures by recommending new practices and following up with candidates and hiring managers to obtain feedback regarding the recruiting process.

  • Ensures regulatory aspects of the recruitment process is compliant with federal and state legislation.

  • Provide effective talent-related decision support through the use of timely and meaningful data, analysis, metrics, and dashboards

  • Maintains memberships and affiliations with trade/professional organizations related to the industry.

  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.

Special Notes:

This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. Must be able to travel locally, regionally and nationally to represent Stony Brook. Evening and/or weekend hours may be required at times.
