HERC: Metro New York & Southern Connecticut Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant, Clinical Instructor, Neurosurgery, Neurocritical Care Team (NCCU) in Stony Brook, New York

Neurosurgery NCCU Position: Under the direction of the Chief Physician Assistant, Chief Nurse Practitioner and the Neuroscience Attendings, the hired candidate will join a team of Advanced Practice Providers who cover the Neurocritical care service, 24/7 in the NCCU. Our need is to have dynamic and hard-working individuals cover shifts in the NCCU. Orientation and training is provided to all new staff members regardless of experience. Responsibilities begin with taking care of critically ill neurosurgical and neurological patients with complex medical issues in a busy 14 - bed closed Neurocritical care unit. Team members are expected to monitor our patient's clinical status, deliver appropriate medical care promptly and effectively communicate with members of our service, as well as collaborating teams. Other duties include common bedside procedures such as placement of Mid lines, PICC lines, Arterial lines, Central lines, assisting with bronchoscopy and POCUS. Responsibilities also entail complex ventilator and airway management, performing comprehensive physical and neurological exams on patients, diagnosing, treating, ordering and interpreting laboratory and radiological exams while collaborating with the attending physician. Shifts are 13.33 hours, rotating days and nights. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Physician Assistant: Graduate from ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program. NYS Physician Assistant license. NCCPA certified or must have in possession by start date. NIHSS, ENLS, BLS and ACLS certifications required upon hire. New graduates welcome. Nurse Practitioner: Current NYS RN licensure. Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing. NYS certification Family or dual certified Pediatric and Adult. Two years of nursing experience in neurosurgery, neurology, general surgery, med-surg, emergency medicine or intensive care. NIHSS, ENLS, BLS and ACLS certifications required upon hire. New graduates welcome. PREFERRED QUALIFCATIONS: Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner: One year or greater experience as an APP in the emergency department or an intensive care unit.
