Clinical Laboratory Technologist I - Lead Tech Central Core (Special Hematology) - 2102472 Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist I is a valuable member of our Central Core Laboratory team, who provides clinical services to our patient population, and will also interact in a professional manner with nursing staff, physicians, support staff, peers and other members of the hospital community. Duties of a Lead Technologist - TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist I may include the following but are not limited to: Has line responsibility for the day to day operation of Special Hematology section of the Central Core Laboratory. Applies detailed specialized knowledge of laboratory, safety procedures and protocols as well as scientific principles to perform advanced level testing in areas of responsibility. Assists in the development and implementation of new and update of current laboratory procedures. Performs all tests utilizing and adhering to the departmental quality control policies and procedures. Responsible for the overall review of the laboratory sections` daily quality control program, taking appropriate corrective action as needed. Adheres to and performs tasks according to the departmental preventive maintenance program for equipment. Responsible to identify and resolve laboratory Quality Assurance (QA) problems and bringing such problems to the attention of the Associate Technical Director as soon as possible. Performs regular review of departmental manual worksheets and maintenance logs/charts ensuring adherence to quality assurance policies and procedures. Brings unresolved issues to the attention of the Associate Technical Director. Will be responsible for recognizing and resolving issues related to the Special Hematology section that includes equipment problems and personnel issues. Must assist in implementation and maintenance of NYDOH/CAP/JC standards and regulations and be prepared for on-site inspections. Will maintain specific knowledge of safe laboratory practices as required by NYDOH, OSHA and PESH. Competency with Laboratory Information System (LIS) to include assisting with development and testing of all LIS related systems for example new tests additions to the test menu, upgrades to current systems etc. Responsible for the direct supervision of subordinate staff and preparation of staff schedules. Prepares performance programs and performance appraisals of subordinate staff. Assists in the preparation and presentation of laboratory sessions to medical, nursing, health related professionals, students and staff. Responsible for accurate functioning of automated instrumentation. Creates cross-training opportunities and assists staff in cross-training as per established policies and procedures. To maintain daily working inventory of supplies and reagents. To collect and analyze monthly workload statistics. Will be familiar and abide by all university hospital intuitional and departmental policies and procedures and ensure the subordinate staff does the same. To serve as a professional role model in representing the Department of Laboratories. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/ Biological or Life Sciences. NY State Education Dept Licensure as Clinical Laboratory Technologist. Minimum of seven years of Clinical Laboratory experience. Three years of direct experience in Special Hematology Lab setting. Competency in working with laboratory computerized systems and software Strong verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Prior supervisory/administrative Experience.
