State of Minnesota Registered Nurse in Stillwater, Minnesota

Job Summary Job Summary This position is designated as full-time with day/evening rotating shifts including weekend and holiday shifts as assigned. The Corrections' nurse is presented with opportunities to use a full battery of nursing skills along with broad knowledge of disease processes. The nurse works closely with other health care providers, including primary care physicians and mid-level practitioners. The Corrections' nurse ensures that individuals receive needed health care in a manner that does not compromise nor conflict with security issues within the correctional facility. This position assists in the provision of individual health care; assists in the medication process; assists with other functions as delegated by the charge nurse/supervisor; maintains a system for accurate and thorough medical record keeping; provides health education; and maintains adequate inventory and security of medical supplies and equipment. THIS POSITION HAS DIRECT CONTACT WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE INCARCERATED. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position: LICENSURE: To qualify, you must be a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota and have a license that is current, active and without restrictions, limitations or conditions. Individuals who have a temporary permit as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota may be considered, provided they can obtain Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Minnesota within their probationary period. NOTE: Please indicate your license or permit number and the issuance and expiration dates of your license/permit on your application/resume. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Skills in and ability to produce accurate and timely clinical documentation. * Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse populations, including management,coworkers and patients. * Ability to respond to medical emergencies. * Ability to work independently and without close supervision. Preferred Qualifications The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position: * Non-temporary Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Minnesota that is current, active and without restrictions, limitations or conditions. * Completion of a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. * One or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse. * Clinical nursing experience in a hospital, long-term care and/or clinic setting within the past five years. * Nursing experience in a correctional or secured setting. * Experience working in a correctional or secured setting. * Nursing experience in a specialized clinical area(s), such as in gender-specific, geriatric, juvenile health care, medical/surgery unit, and/or behavioral health. Physical Requirements The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required prior to hire for this position. These components consist of a drug test, tuberculosis screening, and/or respirator clearance. The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position. Additional Requirements The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records. New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
