This position exists to provide lead work direction to Security Counselors by providing security within Forensics Services or Minnesota Sex Offender Program while maintaining proper supervision of patients.

The incumbent will:

  • Provide direction/guidance as a lead worker to Security Counselors, so that completed assignments and duties are in accordance with facility policy and procedure.

  • Ensure safety, security, and control is maintained within the facility through consistent and systematic application of established policies/procedures.

  • Provide and ensure consistent, fair and humane treatment of patients during the course of daily activities, so that the environment is conducive to and encourages positive behavior.

  • Provide and receive information in an accurate, timely and dependable manner, so that information can be evaluated and appropriate action initiated.

  • Be competent in the use of security, electrical, mechanical, electronic, and all other equipment associated with the position so that they are operated in an efficient and safe manner.

  • Be prepared for and respond to any unusual or emergency situations so that safety, accountability, welfare and security of the facility, general public, on-site personnel, and patients is provided.

  • Act in a professional manner and set a good example both on and off the job to reflect positively on the facility as a whole.

  • Use time wisely and to the benefit of the facility so that an efficient, effective, and secure operation is maintained.

  • Be knowledgeable of and support facility post orders, operating guidelines, instructions, security procedures, and division directives that apply to the duties assigned and seek to enhance operational methods, so that a high level of safety and security is maintained.

This announcement will be used to fill multiple permanent, full-time Security Counselor Lead vacancies at Forensic Services and/or MSOP in St. Peter.

* NOTE: Work assignments require separate and distinctly different duties that are specifically addressed in Post Orders, Operating Guidelines and Security Procedures. The general purpose, responsibilities, and tasks remain the same for all Security Counselor Lead positions. *

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify, you must:

  • Have a minimum of two (2) years of experience working as Security Counselor in a DHS facility, providing a secure environment, implementing treatment strategies and managing client behavior;

  • Have no active discipline;

  • Received an overall rating of “Meets Standards“ or above on previous performance reviews; AND

  • Possess a valid driver‘s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, sitting, walking, fast walking/running in emergency situations.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds occasionally.
