The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking qualified and enthusiastic individuals to join our Forensic Nursing Home team within the Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) division of the agency.

This announcement will be used to fill permanent positions at the Forensic Nursing Home. The Forensic Services campus in St. Peter is comprised of the Forensic Mental Health Program (FMHP) and the Forensic Nursing Home (FNH). Forensic Services provides mental health evaluation and treatment services to individuals diagnosed with a mental illness who present a risk to public safety. This is a safe and secure treatment environment.

We are hiring for full-time, part-time and intermittent positions on rotating and night shifts . This posting covers all CNA vacancies within the FNH and the position schedule type is subject to what is available. Rotating shift includes day and evening hours. Night shift includes overnight hours. Days of work and hours will vary depending on facility needs including weekend and some holiday shifts. Positions with anticipated work hours fourteen (14) or less hours per week are not eligible for the hiring bonus. Please discuss your preference with the hiring supervisor during your interview.

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a part of a multi-disciplinary team and provides direct care, treatment, support, and leisure activities to residents at the Forensic Nursing Home in St. Peter. Day-to-day responsibilities of this position include:

  • Providing care to residents in accordance with the plan of care and under the direction of a licensed nurse while maintaining a therapeutic working relationship with residents.

  • Directly supporting residents as necessary including assisting in meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping, and personal care activities, emergency intervention and providing general resident supervision.

  • Addressing crisis situations that present a risk to the health and safety of residents (e.g., CPR, first aid, emergency physical intervention).

  • Using non-physical intervention strategies (e.g., negotiation, active listening, redirection) whenever possible to address behavioral crisis and potential behavioral crisis.

  • Maintaining a clean safe working environment.

  • Transporting residents, if needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • High School diploma or General Education Diploma

  • Must possess a valid driver‘s license

  • Current registration as a Nursing Assistant with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Nursing Assistant Registry. If you are not currently registered as a Nursing Assistant with the MDH, we will reimburse you to become certified within six (6) months from your date of hire.
