The Risk Management division operates Minnesota state government’s self-insurance program, along with the state workers’ compensation and safety program. The division also insures the state’s assets and provides property and casualty coverage. The Workers Comp unit takes a proactive approach with a focus on safety and loss control efforts that strive to minimize the incidence of injuries, accidents, and other damages and losses.

As a claims management specialist, you will administer and manage workers’ compensation claims by applying the compensation, rehabilitation, and medical provisions of workers’ compensation laws, rules, case law, and division policies and procedures; investigate and analyze claims to determine liability and ensure that injured workers receive appropriate benefits; establish and adjust reserves to reflect the potential exposure of each claim; provide assistance and information to all parties and develop effective working relationships; coordinate the disability management/vocational rehabilitation process; represent the employer in dispute resolution; work with agencies on strategic planning for difficult cases and provide cost estimates of various solutions; settle claims where feasible; pursue subrogation recovery; and direct litigation to control costs and limit the employer’s exposure.

To promote a culture of flexibility, we offer staff a hybrid work environment that varies by team, position, and business needs.
