This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul and has the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent may be expected to work in the office at least once a month.

The Sustainability and Public Health Engineer manages projects designed to address climate action, health and equitable communities, and critical connections.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing specific design policies and procedures for Sustainability and Public Health programs and projects.

  • Reviewing final engineering plans and proposals.

  • Preparing and revising regulations, statutes, rules, standards, manuals, and other guidance and instructional materials related to Sustainability and Public Health; and

  • Collaborating with staff and project sponsors (e.g. cities, counties, non-profit partners, private partners) to assist with project proposals, specifications and estimates related to Sustainability and Public Health programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure as a professional civil engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). If obtaining licensure through comity (reciprocity), a practice pending letter from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.

AND

Three years of experience as an Engineer Senior, or equivalent, that demonstrates:

  • Experience reviewing plans or project designs to identify deficiencies and inefficiencies relating to sustainable transportation.

  • Experience drafting or revising policies, procedures, or standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with climate action projects, including electric vehicle infrastructure, complete streets, and resilience.

  • Experience interpreting and applying environmental requirements, federal regulations, and design criteria and standards to projects.
