State of Minnesota Student Worker Para Professional in St. Paul, Minnesota

Job Summary Job Summary There will be two available positions for this posting. These positions exist to provide support to the Public Health Laboratory testing primarily through pre-analytical activities and accessioning specimens into the laboratory and processing specimens for COVID-19 laboratory testing. Additionally, this position will also provide support to other priority 1 and 2 laboratory activities. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Completion of one year of post-secondary education. Student Worker Eligibility To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Para professional you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment. Preferred Qualifications Experience processing human specimens in a clinical setting. Understanding of the principles and techniques of the laboratory specialties of clinical bacteriology (including Mycobacteriology), virology, and mycology. Skills in classic microbiology techniques such as streaking bacteria or specimens onto agar plates. Experience with molecular biology methods such as polymerise chain reaction (PCR) testing. Experience of working in a laboratory required to follow CLIA rules and regulations. Knowledge of quality assurance and quality management systems. Familiarity with and ability to use biological safety cabinets, incubators, and molecular detection equipment. Physical Requirements Precise hand dexterity is required to utilize laboratory tools to manipulate bacteria and a variety of pipettes for testing assays.
