Job Summary

The Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer works as a member of the product development team, responsible for the testing & qualification of electrical components, system wiring, and regulatory requirements for Trane Residential HVAC & Supply products.

Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):

  • Design and develop electrical components, wiring diagrams, harnesses and accessories for HVAC system.

  • Research and qualify electrical components for New Product Development (NPD), productivity and sustaining.

  • Work closely with Controls Hardware Engineering and Product Development teams to review designs for product and electrical safety.

  • Establish relationships with UL, ETL and NEC to monitor future updates to safety standards and answer internal questions related to safety for products

  • Key member for quality and field improvement projects. Projects may involve unit system, subsystem, or component design applications and testing.

  • Maintain/update agency listings (UL, ETL, CSA, IEC, NEC, etc.) to support system designs and part qualification.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology and at least 5 years of engineering product design experience is required.

  • Experience developing HVAC equipment is a plus.

Key Competencies:

  • Aptitude for mechanical and electrical equipment design with knowledge of electrical and manufacturing standards.

  • Experience selecting components, cables, and terminals to meet UL standards

  • Ability to work independently to drive technical solutions with minimal oversight.

  • Results-oriented individual with emphasis on achieving overall team performance.

  • Work effectively in an open, consensus-oriented, team environment.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
