This position exists to provide expert level knowledge and skills in specialized areas of calculations. This position also supports the auditing of estimates and payments to ensure timely and accurate execution of responsibilities.
Maintain expert-level knowledge and skills sufficient to administer the SVF Plan responsibilities of the Calculations Team. Work with Director, Supervisors and Centralized Training to ensure staff are trained, training is documented and updated resources are available. Identify opportunities for automation and work closely with Product Owners and IS to develop and implement process improvements. Coordinate daily activities to ensure timely and accurate estimates and payments.
Direct and coordinate the day-to-day auditing of all Estimates and Payments work. As knowledge expert, coordinate with Calculations Supervisors to work with new and existing staff on all types of benefit calculations. Provide feedback on daily work, assist leadership to identify areas of training opportunity and support staff as they transition from Centralized Training to independent work. The incumbent will support ongoing staff development at all stages in the RSS series.
Develop, conduct and direct processes, procedures, training, and daily activities for the most advanced specialty calculations, including Actuarial Military Purchases, Disability Offsets, and Contributions Transfers. Maintain appropriate documentation to support ongoing training of calculations staff, conduct audits to ensure compliance with all laws, rules and policies.

Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of four (4) years professional-level experience in business administration or retirement/financial planning that includes at least two (2) years of defined benefit pension plan experience
*A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Math, or related field may substitute for one year of the above minimum qualification of professional-level experience.
Experience and education must also clearly demonstrate:
Strong knowledge in math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, deriving percentages and ratios, simple and compound interest, financial theory, present value, investments, and actuarial theory.
Strong skills in critical thinking, analysis and research for planning and developing training curriculum.
Organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize work and meet required deadlines
Effective communication skills, orally and in writing, to communicate complex information to members and to trainees.
Word processing, statistical spreadsheet, presentation software, and other computer software skills sufficient to create curriculum and deliver training.
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive experience manually calculating all types of benefits provided by PERA, including retirement, disability, and survivor strongly preferred.
Expert knowledge of PERA’s governing statutes including Chapters 11A, 353, 353D, 353E, 353F, 353G, 356 and 518 (as applicable), governing membership eligibility, benefit determinations, and benefit receipt requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of movement is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
