Are you passionate about protecting critical information assets from emerging threats? Join our team as a Principal Information Security Engineer (PISE) and take the lead in safeguarding the state's most sensitive data. In this key role, you will drive the implementation of a robust Enterprise Information Security Program, ensuring that all information assets are secure against both current and future internal and external threats.

As a PISE, you’ll be the go-to expert within your security domain, collaborating with other security professionals to design and integrate cutting-edge solutions across the enterprise. With a comprehensive understanding of diverse security domains and IT management processes, you'll deliver seamless security interfaces, recommend improvements to policies and procedures, and contribute to the development of enterprise-wide systems.

In addition to technical expertise, you’ll leverage your strong project management and communication skills to lead efforts in risk assessment, incident management, and the implementation of security frameworks for MNsure. Your leadership will help shape the security posture of government systems while driving compliance with established standards and best practices. This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St Paul, Minnesota

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience as an information security engineer or related information security role.

Experience must include:

  • Applying information security technologies, including firewall, intrusion detection, vulnerability management, encryption, computer forensics, certificate authority, web, and/or security related application development.

  • Working with operating systems such as Unix, Linux, Windows and with related operating system administrative tools.

  • Understanding of regulatory requirements that have a direct relationship to information security (e.g., NIST, IRS 1075, HIPAA,PCI, MARSE, etc.)

  • Ability to communicate complex information security requirements and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, other information technology professionals, vendors, and other governmental agencies.

  • Proficient in delivering exceptional customer support through attentive listening, empathetic understanding, and effective problem resolution.

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A Master’s degree in Information Security and Assurance, Computer Forensics or a related Information Security field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, or a related Bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years of experience, or a related Associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or the ability to certify within one (1) year of hire.

  • Other technologies and certifications: CISA, CISM, Security+ or other relevant information security certification.

  • Experience with vendor security risk management.

  • Application security assessment and secure coding experience.

  • Experience implementing security frameworks and systems security plan development.

  • Experience with Product teams or agile methodologies.
