The Child and Family Health Division within the Minnesota Department of Health is looking to add a student worker to their growing team! The person in this position will specifically be assisting the Women and Infant Health Unit.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Provide assistance to the Innovations for Maternal Health Outcomes in Minnesota (I-MOM) grant program.

  • Support various maternal and infant health programming to assure continued provision of quality perinatal health services for Minnesota families.

  • Support the Maternal and Child Health Section's mission of providing statewide leadership and public health information essential for promoting, improving, or maintaining the health and well-being of women, children/youth and families throughout Minnesota.

This is a hybrid telework position that require in-person meetings and in-office work in the downtown St. Paul location. Telework will be based on the business needs of the unit and is at supervisory discretion.

This position is part-time and will work up to 20 hours per week. The specific hours and days of work are flexible Monday through Friday and will be dependent on the student worker’s schedule. This position is anticipated to last until September 30, 2027, or until the selected candidate completes their educational program, whichever occurs sooner.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current registration in a master's or doctoral program such as Nursing, Public Health, Education, Maternal/Child Health or similar field of study.

Student Worker Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

Minimum Qualifications to be assessed at interview:

  • Proficiency in business English, spelling and grammar.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, plan, organize and prioritize workload in efficient and timely manner.

  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate information, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to proof, edit and format reports and curriculum with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Ability to take direction, understand, and effectively carry out complex oral and written directions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of maternal and child health.

  • Proficiency in computer programs such as: Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to review literature and other resources to determine evidence-based approaches.

  • Basic knowledge and skills with epidemiologic/research principles (e.g., descriptive statistics, data analysis, surveys, etc.)

Additional Requirements

  • This position requires successful completion of a background check and employment reference check.

  • This employment does not require a valid driver’s license, but it does demand travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
