This position will be part of the Enterprise Services team, which delivers a full suite of services to state agencies, boards, councils, and commissions, and many central services to local government partners.

The M365 Identity Engineer coordinates efforts across various domains including Azure Identity/Microsoft Entra ID, Cloud Security, Azure & M365 services, Azure B2B, and cloud tenant integrations. The responsibilities of this role will encompass applying advanced subject matter expertise to address technical support issues, identity/security concerns, and troubleshooting within Azure Active Directory (AAD), Hybrid Identity, and M365 environments. This can also include identifying the root cause of problems spanning M365, Entra ID, Entra Connect, Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM), Azure, desktop/laptop clients, mobile platforms, and security policies.

As an M365 Identity Engineer, you will partner closely with MNIT management, customers, operations staff, and vendors to recommend, design, implement, and document technology solutions. You will provide information to key stakeholders such as governance groups, enterprise services, and agency technical teams for widescale deployment. To ensure service continuity, security, and uptime, this position will work collaboratively with customers, operations, and vendors through all phases of feature evaluation, change management, and process improvement.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT related experience working with M365, Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft Entra ID and their supporting services.

Experience must include:

  • Experience managing hybrid user identity and roles, hybrid access and authentication and implementing modern identity services.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 Identity and access management, including on-premises based AD integration (AD Connect, Conditional Access, MFA, Information Protection, Data Loss Prevention, Data Encryption).

  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Azure security (Microsoft Entra ID, Purview, Advanced Threat Protection, Security and Compliance Center, EMS suite).

  • Knowledge of scripting framework such as Powershell, GraphAPI, and/or Azure CLI.

  • Knowledge of Azure DevOps Pipelines, Microsoft Planner, and GitHub.

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

*A master's degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor's degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate's degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of application security policies and adheres to security standards of the State.

  • Knowledge of cloud-based enterprise collaboration systems and industry trends toward integrated, open, interoperable, and mobile technologies.

  • Knowledge of electronic government practices.

  • Knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuation professional practices such as business impact analysis, business continuation planning, alternate site contacts, and testing.

  • Knowledge of security practices for prevention and detection as well as enabling tools for authentication, authorization, encryption, filtering, etc.

  • Software/Service management experience including hardware and software monitoring tools and systems.
