This position serves our partners at Minnesota’s largest state agency, the Department of Human Services (DHS). The MNIT DHS team supports complex and varied technical needs, including systems that provide health care coverage, deliver child protection and welfare services, and provide support for Minnesotans with special needs including mental illness, chemical dependencies, and physical or developmental disabilities.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience in Object-Oriented programming and principles, including working with Java and related software tools.

Experience must include:

  • Proficiency in writing Java code for large enterprise systems.

  • Basic working knowledge of SQL-based database management systems like Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle.

  • Working on Java applications connecting to Database and basic Database SQL knowledge.

  • Knowledge of working in Java applications in a cloud environment such as Azure or AWS.

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding amongst all parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of data integrity fundamentals and the ability to apply these principles in system design and development.

  • Familiarity with relational databases and the ability to manage data using SQL.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues involving multiple software and hardware components.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or collaboratively, as well as follow work direction and guidance from others.

  • Ability to respond quickly to technical issues to ensure system availability and minimize downtime.
