As a Grant Accountant, you will provide financial oversight and fiscal policy leadership for the programs and grants. Specifically, this position will development and maintain financial reporting requirements to ensure proper reporting of expenditures related to the portfolio.

This position will provide technical assistance to stakeholders for programs and grants in the position’s portfolio and provide fiscal oversight. The position will develop and update processes, policies and procedure to ensure programs and grants are operated in accordance with Department objectives and policies. This will include the evaluation of available data to make recommendations to streamline reporting and to develop new reporting instruments to achieve Departments objective while maintaining sound fiscal stewardship of State funds.

Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Serve as primary fiscal contact for the development and operation of the financial components for assigned Programs and Grants including, but not limited to, accounting, budgeting, reporting, payment processes and financial performance indicator for programs and grants as assigned.

  • Consult, advise and provide technical assistance to program clientele on matters related to financial management, accounting, and administrative procedures so that programs and grants operate fully within fiscal parameters required by the State.

  • Provide consulting and assistance to other clientele including the preparation and dissemination of reports, program analysis, program documentation and working papers.

  • Provide quality control for the team. This will include peer reviewing, cross-training, process documentation, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of professional-level accounting experience. Experience must demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices.

  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of large complex spreadsheets and databases such as Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to prepare and interpret complex fiscal records and reports, recognize problems, and effect solutions.

  • Ability to analyze fiscal reports and banking records for adherence and conformance to federal laws, state statutes, and department policies.

  • Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret complex data and use the findings to identify and recommend program improvements and opportunities for simplification of processes.

* Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance or related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel, including use of pivot tables and advanced formulas such as VLOOKUP or similar functions.

  • Knowledge of the SWIFT accounting system.

  • Experience with statewide accounting systems.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple demands under tight time constraints.

  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.

  • Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
