This position offers a hybrid work schedule which includes telework days and in office days at a DLI office building
This position will direct and lead the Construction Codes and Licensing Division's electrical Inspections unit:
To achieve assurance with legal requirements and overall adherence to laws, rules and regulations that provide for public safety.
To interact with all related individuals to ensure that all electrical construction codes, licensing, and inspection activities are conducted in an appropriate manner.
To provide technical and leadership assistance to Director to address industry stakeholder issues, lead policy development and address division program needs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
· Holds a current Minnesota Class A Master's Electrician license.
· Three (3) years of managerial or supervisory level experience managing the work of electricians.
*Doctorate degree may substitute for two years of experience; Master’s degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; Bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year of experience; Associates degree may substitute for six months of experience.
Demonstrated leadership experience sufficient to effectively supervise and direct the work of assigned staff. Demonstrated leadership experience should include any of the following:
Coaching, mentoring, and/or developing staff while building relationships.
Leading teams to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, or goal accomplishment.
Managing the preparation and maintenance of reports necessary to carry out the functions of the department.
Understanding of staff development, supervision, and team building.
Demonstrated leadership experience may include any of the following:
· Experience as a supervisor, team lead, lead worker.
· Completion of a State leadership development program, such as Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) or Senior Leadership Institute (SLI).
· Completion of a similar or equivalent leadership development program through another organization.
· A paid or unpaid position leading a program or board or chairing a committee, such as an Employee Resource Group (ERG). This experience must also include:
o 1+ years of identifying issues, goals, and strategic actions
o 100+ hours per year time commitment
Applicants who meet the above qualifications will be further evaluated for the following:
· Ability to manage electrical installation site inspections for electrical, contractor and consumer inquiries and complaints.
· Ability to oversee the establishment and administration of operating policies, rules, processes and quality control auditing to ensure compliance with state construction and licensing codes.
· Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
· Five (5) or more years of experience as a supervisor of electrical inspections in Minnesota.
· Knowledge of the principles and practices of construction industry management, and all phases of building construction systems including structural, electrical, plumbing and heating including systems, building material properties, principles of engineering, building manufacturing procedures, operation of inspection or approval agencies, and objectives of quality control procedures.
- Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).

Hybrid for State of MN allows an employee to work a portion of the time remotely with a regular schedule of time at the designated office.
