This position serves our partners at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). The MNIT MDH team provides services for over 250+ applications and delivers the information technology to drive one of the leading public health systems in the nation. You will support an agency that works to protect, maintain, and improve the health of all Minnesotans.

As the Data Engineer at Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) you will shape, build, maintain, and support MDH’s data infrastructure located in the Amazon Web Services (AWS). You will leverage data technologies to support ever increasing data science related needs in our environment and will be working in a fast paced ever evolving environment where your contributions are not only appreciated but encouraged. This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate these qualifications in their resume:

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of advanced data science experience.

Experience must include the following:

  • AWS services, and experience with at least three (3) of the following technologies: Glue, REDSHIFT, RDS, Lambda, Athena or DMS

  • Industry transforming data through ETL and/or data pipelines

  • Programming experience in Python

  • Using data Analytics tools such as R or SAS

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR a related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR a related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data science technical decision making with limited resources and precedence.

  • Sophisticated data science troubleshooting ability, including the ability to create and test hypotheses based on relative likelihood, and a willingness and ability to creatively consider all possible causes for a problem and test appropriately.

  • Communicating and training on data science technical issues to non-technical employees

  • Collaboration skills in working with technical and nontechnical employees in group efforts.

  • Communicating industry standards, best practices, testing techniques, and the interpretation of assessment, and testing results
