Are you passionate about public health? Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is seeking dedicated professionals to make a difference in our communities. The Minnesota Department of Health's (MDH) Environmental Health Division is looking for a Compliance Coordinator to join its Drinking Water Protection Section in the Non-Community Public Water Supply (NPWS) Unit. This position will administer and ensure compliance with the federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) rules and regulations as they pertain to public water systems, 2) Coordinate, train, guide, and mentor compliance officers, Define, document, and improve compliance SOPs Section-wide, 3) Collaborate with Unit Supervisor, other Unit Compliance Coordinator, Section, and Division staff, and US EPA to optimize program implementation; and 4) Provide technical assistance, consultation, and training to staff, public water systems, operators, and others in regard to regulatory compliance for public water supplies.

This position will have the option of teleworking; however, it will be based on the business needs of the unit and is at supervisory discretion.

Minimum Qualifications

( 3 ) Three years of professional experience in environmental health, hydrology, or related field; Professional experience must include compliance monitoring, compiling, and analyzing data, and writing reports and correspondence.

A related master’s degree may substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience; bachelor’s degree may substitute for twelve (12) months of experience; and associate’s degree may substitute for six (6) months of experience.

Additional minimum qualifications to be assessed during the interview:

  • Ability to compile and analyze data and information from a variety of sources in making compliance and enforcement determinations.

  • Ability to recognize, evaluate, and provide solutions for problems which affect public health.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; including the ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and effective manner, both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Related advanced degree in Environmental Health, Hydrology or related.

  • Detailed knowledge of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act and Minnesota Rules applicable to public water supply systems.

  • Ability to compile and analyze data from a variety of sources to make compliance and enforcement determinations.

  • Experience with enforcing laws and rules including in contentious situations.

  • Ability to establish effective working partnerships within MDH, with regulated facility owners and operators, and with the general public.

  • Ability to develop techniques and procedures to accomplish goals and objectives.

Physical Requirements

Managing physical paperwork and assembling mailed kits for sample collection

Additional Requirements

The selected candidate will be required to successfully pass an employment reference check and background check.

This employment does not require a valid driver's license, but it does demand some travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
