In the 2023 legislative session, the Governor’s Office, Minnesota legislature, and leaders for children and families worked in partnership to pass legislation establishing the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) to create a sustainable, public face for children’s issues in state government. This new cabinet-level agency brings together programs centered on children and families, including child care and early learning, child support, child safety and permanency, economic support and food assistance, and youth opportunity. This position will become a part of DCYF.

As Child Care Services Communication Coordinator, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and managing the external and internal communication activities for the Child Care Services Division of the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF).
This position serves as liaison between the Child Care Services leadership team, partners, and the public, and supports all communication initiatives within the division. As a recognized division expert, the works with the Child Care Services leadership team to proactively identify internal communication needs to support change management and information sharing. Responsibilities include:
Collaborate with the Child Care Services Executive Team to proactively identify communication opportunities, including identification of target audiences and development of communication objectives and key messages as well as strategies for implementation and evaluation of success.
Develop, implement, and evaluate internal and external communication strategies for the division, including goals and objectives, timetables, work plan and evaluation methodology.
Develop and manage communication plans for division projects.
Design content and visual layout of reports, fact sheets, and materials needed to meet legislative mandates, and clearly communicate agency and program needs, goals, objectives, and outcomes.
Collaborate with management and staff to establish priorities, coordinate the planning, design, and production of agency communication materials, including brochures, reports, and other materials to maintain consistency and quality.
Plan and implement web-based communication efforts and community engagement tactics.
Guide agency staff in work related to public communications.
Ensure accessibility in all communications and promote equitable access of services and supports through inclusive communication strategies.
Minimum Qualifications

3 years of experience in the communications field disseminating complex information and writing diverse communications for a variety of audiences. This 3 years of experience must clearly demonstrate:
Demonstrated ability to write and edit clearly in journalistic and standard office styles, in plain language, and in taking a culturally responsive approach
Experience developing and implementing communications plans, with a proven record of meeting goals
Understanding of journalistic and public relations practices
Strong project management skills
Expertise in organizing and maintaining content.
Experience in understanding of different approaches for writing for print, webpage, texting and social media.
Expertise in planning, developing, and implementing effective communication strategies.
Content management system experience, including writing for and creating webpages for a large and diverse audience.
*A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, English or another related field may substitute for 1 year of experience.
