MassMutual Business Operations Specialist in Springfield, Massachusetts
The Opportunity
Business Operations Specialists are responsible for a variety of functions such as reviewing various annuitant transactions, analyzing data and/or forms along with plan parameters to ensure proper processing of client and participant data and performing in good order review and handle transactions both manual and automated as well as completes analysis and exception processing.
This is a hybrid role that will require employees to work from our Springfield office at least 2 days a week.
The Team
The Pension Risk Transfer Benefit Administration Team provides ongoing administration of pension plans and services the annuitants within that book of business.
The Key Responsibilities Include:
Acts as a subject matter expert within the team providing guidance and coaching to less experienced employees
Reviews and interprets plan documents, multiple forms of contract level data and may perform complex benefit calculations
Understand all regulatory items that affect an annuitant's account/calculation
Perform/review various annuitant transactions; periodic and non-periodic participant distributions, indicative data changes, i.e. address changes, bank changes, medical premium deductions, and federal and state tax withholding
Handles processing of annuitant requests, including but not limited to benefit calculation, retirement initiation and death claims. May include payment reconciliation, reporting and audit request, install/contract set up activities
Performs a variety of annuitant-based services, include processing of transactions and performing quality reviews
Follows general instructions or procedures
Ensure accurate and timely processing within established timing standards
Ability to perform comprehensive pension benefit calculations, if applicable
Applies product knowledge and critical thinking skills to handle problems independently but seeks guidance in highly complex situations
Respond to internal service requests and completing complex research requests
Responsible for analyzing data and/or forms along with plan parameters to ensure proper processing of client and participant data
Applies basic PC skills
The Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree
At least 2 years operational work experience and/or reviewing items for accuracy in the financial services industry
At least 1 year of work experience involving data analysis, statistics, math, and/or complex problem solving
Proficiency in Excel
Detail oriented
Ability to build partnerships with colleagues, be flexible and adapt to change
The Ideal Qualifications
Experience working with Pension/Retirement Plans
Benefit calculation experience
Advanced Excel experience (Vlookups, Pivot Tables etc)
