Position Summary:

The CICS Support Engineer is responsible for providing technical support and expertise for the CICS (Customer Information Control System) environment within our organization. This role involves ensuring the smooth operation, performance, and availability of CICS systems, as well as troubleshooting and resolving any issues that may arise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • CICS System Administration: Perform system administration tasks, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of CICS regions, resource definition, and security settings.

  • Incident Management: Respond to and resolve incidents related to CICS systems, including analyzing and troubleshooting problems, identifying root causes, and implementing appropriate solutions.

  • Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Monitor the performance of CICS systems, analyze performance data, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning measures to optimize system performance.

  • Capacity Planning: Assess the capacity requirements of CICS systems, analyze workload trends, and make recommendations for capacity upgrades or adjustments to ensure optimal system performance.

  • Change Management: Coordinate and participate in change management processes for CICS systems, including reviewing and approving change requests, implementing changes, and ensuring proper documentation and communication.

  • Problem Management: Conduct root cause analysis for recurring or complex issues, collaborate with other teams to identify and implement permanent solutions, and contribute to problem management processes to prevent future incidents.

  • Security and Compliance: Ensure the security and compliance of CICS systems by implementing and maintaining appropriate access controls, monitoring for security vulnerabilities, and adhering to regulatory requirements.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as application developers, database administrators, and network engineers, to ensure seamless integration and support for CICS systems. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates, reports, and recommendations as needed.

  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of CICS systems, including configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Share knowledge and provide training to other team members to enhance overall support capabilities.

    Required Qualifications:

At least 3-5 years of hands-on experience in CICS Transaction Server system administration and support, including:

  • Installation

  • Configuration

  • Resource definition

  • Security

  • Performance tuning

  • Troubleshooting

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in mainframe technologies, such as z/OS, JCL (Job Control Language), VSAM (Virtual Storage Access Method), and IBM utilities.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex CICS-related issues, including performance bottlenecks, system failures, and application errors.

  • Working knowledge of CICSPlex System Manager and related tools

  • Experience in system dump analysis

    Education – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in CICS administration and support

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$46.79 - $97.05

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
