POSITION SUMMARY:

CVS Health is looking for a strategy-focused financed leader to join the Network Strategy team under the Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) business unit. The Director, Network Strategy will partner with senior executives on developing how we get the best value from our pharmacy network and drive negotiation strategy. This position will also oversee how we manage and strategize to drive our pharmacy cost of goods sold, requiring partnership with advanced analytic and financial talent.

The director will be a data-driven leader with the ability to distill complex analyses and concepts into insights that are packaged and adapted appropriately for the target audience, whether a senior executive or peer. A successful director will develop authoritative knowledge of the PBM network, mail, and specialty channel P&Ls, with a strong understanding of profit levers, the underwriting process, and the financial modeling needed to analyze client offerings that maintain the highest levels of accuracy in forecasting CVS Caremark’s profitability and client savings. This leader will foster a culture of accountability and innovation.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic oversight to all network negotiations and analytical guidance to network development on pharmacy negotiations, and own the implementations of rates into all underwriting processes

  • Drive strategic conversations and updates with executive team, problem solve with leadership and cross-functional teams, and deploy solutions with technical teams

  • Cultivate relationships with key internal partners within the Finance, Networks, and Operational organizations, in order to identify and communicate opportunities to increase margin

  • Train, coach, develop, and provide direction to a team of analytical and financial talent

  • Develop innovative pricing opportunities with our data science & optimization teams

  • Build a strong understanding of different lines of business (Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare, etc.) and their nuances

  • Work independently in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritize work with the appropriate level of delegation to team members

The successful candidate will also have the following skills:

  • Strategic Thinker: Capable of analyzing complex problems and devising innovative solutions - with a clear understanding of how individual pieces fit into the larger picture - and integrating thoughts into strategic business plans

  • Strong Voice: Ability to speak with clarity and authority on network strategy to the executive team and across the organization, with the proven ability to educate and influence customers and internal partners

  • Analytically Sound: Proven ability to both execute and manage others executing quantitative analyses, with a strong attention to detail, clear understanding on how to synthesize the key insights, and a continuous improvement mindset

  • Collaborative & Results-Oriented: Ability to manage priorities in a dynamic environment across multiple partners and to drive cross functional collaboration while maintaining high levels of satisfaction with internal customers

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a finance or data-related field

  • MBA or another advanced degree in relevant field is a plus

REQUIRED SKILLS & OTHER MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of professional experience, preferably within healthcare, including analytics and financial modeling experience

  • 2+ years working on strategic financial projects with the ability to develop executive-level presentations

  • 2+ years of management responsibility

    PREFFERED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in PBM pricing management, or related pricing and guarantee management functions

  • Previous underwriting or financial analysis experience

  • Exposure to health plans, including payers with multiple lines of business

  • Demonstrated ability to develop long-term strategic financial forecasts

  • Familiarity with pharmacy claims data, CVS Health data systems and infrastructure, and common tools to manipulate data

  • Knowledge of pricing and underwriting activities, as well as drivers of revenue and profitability

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$100,000.00 - $231,500.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
