Job Summary:

Our Product Engineer is a critical position within our Ingersoll Rand Industrial Flow business platform where we design, engineer and manufacture fluid technologies (pumps) for the ARO brand. This key team member will work with the manufacturing facility in Southern Pines, North Carolina, and will take a lead role in providing engineering support for fluid products manufactured there. This person will lead global cross-functional teams on quality, manufacturability, VAVE, and i2v to deliver improved product quality, efficiency and cost. This person must be a team player, form strong ties with others, manage a multitude of tasks, communicate clearly, and be effective and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering support as necessary

  • Apply experience or learn and gain experience in: Injection Molding, Die-casting, Sand-Casting, machined parts, heat treat and other surface / secondary treatments, tolerance stack-up analysis

  • Lead assigned lifecycle engineering initiatives related to quality, supply chain, and value engineering.

  • Provide engineering input or hands-on intervention in resolving situations that affect production. Investigate issues through problem solving techniques, background research and engineering analyses as needed to achieve rapid and robust closure.

  • Support the rapid resolution of quality issues discovered through warranty and field returns that require engineering involvement.

  • Identify opportunities for product value enhancement and bring those forward for consideration as value engineering projects.

  • Assist with new product introductions into the factory, working closely with the New Product Development teams to support Engineering Builds, Manufacturing Builds, and systems set-up.

  • Perform tasks in our Wind-chill Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software to set up and release new and revised components and assemblies into the factory.

  • Lead the implementation of engineering drawing changes that are needed for improving quality, clarifying specifications, conforming to new standards, etc.

  • Submit requests for testing at the global product test laboratories and work collaboratively with lab technicians during test execution to assure that test objectives are met.

Qualifications:

  • 4 year degree in Mechanical Engineering is required

  • 5+ years of experience is required, preferably in the pump industry

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.

  • Prior experience with Wind-chill PLM software and Creo Parametric (Pro/E) or Solidworks is desirable.

Competencies

  • Strong project management skills, particularly with organizing tasks and managing time to complete simultaneous multiple assignments.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and to make timely decisions with sound judgement.

  • Understanding of product design fundamentals at both a component and a system level.

  • Understanding of engineering drawings, including the ANSI Y14.5 drafting standard.

  • Proficiency with geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T), tolerance stack-ups, and component inspection procedures.

  • In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, injection molding, die casting, investment casting, forging, powder metal and stamping.

  • Knowledge of materials, heat treatments, and coatings.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all roles and all levels within the organization.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment, to take direction, and to direct the work of others including lab technicians, designers, and suppliers.

  • High initiative and the drive to continuously improve.
