National Grid Apprentice LNG Operator in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts

Pay rate:$46.51 Location: South Yarmouth

Qualifications

• Maintains buildings, equipment and facilities as required and in conformance with plant procedures, including lubrication, parts replacement, equipment repair, instrument adjustment and equipment overhaul in accordance with established schedules or as required at Cape Production plants.

• Controls and limits access to the plant property and responds to plant security alarms and breeches of plant security as prescribed in the plant security procedure. Performs plant facility inspections at the intervals prescribed in the plant procedures. Answers telephone and/or radio, keeping such records thereof.

• Maintains inventories of spare parts and materials in an orderly manner.

• Records and evaluates operating data and initiates corrective action to maintain required performance and alerts supervision to potential problems and failures

• Participates in continuous, routine training for operations, maintenance, security and fire protection to stay qualified for this classification per DOT, State and local regulations

• Maintains and operates the electrical generation facility at the South Yarmouth Operations Center

• Assists other departments in the general inspection of various Cape Gate stations and performs distribution system odor monitoring tests.

• Following initial qualification, the apprentice will go on shift and stand shift alone, when plant is not vaporizing

• Following initial qualification, an individual can be on shift with a fully qualified operator during vaporization operations (Note: two LNG apprentice operators who have previously vaporized may, as manpower needs dictate, vaporize together.)

• Progression to next level is after 18 months of qualification training period

• General aptitude, as demonstrated through passing the F.A. T.

• Must hold a valid driver’s license

• Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.

NOTE: THIS POSITION IS A COVERED CLASSIFICATION UNDER D.O.T. ANTI-DRUG-ALCOHOL PROGRAM REGULATIONS AND CANDIDATES ARE REQUIRED TO PASS A DRUG TEST.

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.

Many of the terms and conditions of employment for this position are defined by a collective bargaining agreement that the Company has with a local union. Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.
